Blankets for an outdoor wedding

Regan, on September 18, 2016 at 11:36 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 23

Hey everyone! I am trying to tick off easy boxes and get stuff purchased. Our wedding is going to be a little in the mountains of CO in October so I am trying to prepare for some chilly weather and supply some blankets for our guests if needed. Has anyone found a good place store or online for some neutral colored or maroon blankets we could buy? Has anyone else done this? Thanks for your help!

Walmart around Christmas time has some cheap fleece ones. They might not be in your colors though...I can't remember which ones they had last year but I do know they were plain without any designs or anything on them

Maybe rent some of those portable propane patio heaters? Those things are wonderful

If it's cold enough to need blankets, it's cold enough to move indoors. Don't do this to your guests.

I'm planning on buying some fleece in my colors and making some. Fleece is cheap, and they look super easy. I'm in Texas, we don't really get a winter. It can be 80, or it can be cold. So I just wanna prepare either way.

You should get outdoor heaters blankets in reality don't help that much if it's actually cold

I saw something on pintrest that used blankets as wedding favors and she ordered them from Belks around Christmas and had them in different baskets for pick up. I think it's a cute idea the weather won't be freezing but if it's a little nippy they can use the fleece to help. I'm sure it will be fine since most ceremony's are only 20 minutes long

I went to an October wedding in Minnesota where they had blankets for their outdoor ceremony. They also had a little hot cider station where the programs were to help warm people up! I think it's fine considering your ceremony will probably only be 20 minutes.

Sorry, I completely disagree with anyone saying it's fine. October in the Colorado mountains can be cold as hell and 20 minutes a damn long time to freeze your ass off. Guest comfort should top priority and that means if guests need blankets or fans to be comfortable, it's inappropriate to be outside. Any time the temperature is colder than 60 degrees or hotter than 75-80 degrees, time to move indoors.

While you may consider 60 degrees to be fine, many people don't. Just like it's unwise to hold a Florida wedding outside in June (despite the fact that people do it), it's also unwise to hold a mountain wedding in Colorado outside in October with your only plan for cooler weather being blankets.

If your guest are not appropriotly dressed then blanket will not help. I think hats or scarfs would be a better buy personally. But I agree with Elizabeth if they NEED a blanket to be warm then it should be inside. 60 degrees with wind can be really terrible and uncomfortable. Make sure be observant of you guest. Sit outside in a dress and nice coat for 30 minutes in the weather that is predicted and see how you feel. Make sure your guest know it will be outside and will be cold.

That's not our only plan! Promise! Smiley smile we have our venue (right next to our ceremony space) as fall back for any crazy weather. I am just looking for some cute touches to be able to include is all. I do appreciate everyone's thoughts!

Oh, so you can hold the ceremony inside if it's too cold? In that case, I think it's okay to have blankets as just a fall decor type thing so long as that's not what you're relying on to keep guests warm.

Oh no no! We have the fall back and everything. The building is ours if we need it and we can make that call up to the morning before. Our venue is so sweet about that! No it's for sure for the look and just in case there is a slight breeze. If it is too cold we will go inside for sure.

Academy sports has some for $4 each. I bought about 20 of them. They had several colors to choose from. I bought navy. It's going to be about 70 on my wedding day but it'll still be cool because we are also in the mountains (it's comfortable at our site in the middle of July and 95 because of where it's st in the mountains).
