Blessings in Disguise??

Has anyone else experienced bad situations during wedding planning that have turned out to be blessings in disguise?

We’ve had several instances where wedding planning has gotten turned upside down, beginning with our first reschedule due to Covid. We were so bummed, but we ended up getting blessed with the sweetest puppy in the entire world, and never would have gotten him had the wedding not been rescheduled and me laid off from work. During the rescheduling process, we lost our cake baker- but after dealing with her during that process, I became very aware that I would not have wanted to work with her anyway! Then we had to reschedule a second time (to 2022) and ended up losing our photographer. I was really bummed and stressed out at the thought of having to find another one within our budget on such short notice. But, as it turns out, the photographer I had originally wanted from day one had a cancellation and our new wedding date was now 1 of only 4 days he had open for the entire year of 2022! During this lengthy downtime, we have had ample time to reimagine our wedding and really determine what is most important to us. We have decided to scale way back on everything, and couldn’t be happier now about our decision! We realized that we were getting completely caught up in the wedding planning hype, and were spending sooooooo much money on things that we didn’t even originally want! We are both so happy we have returned to our original vision for our wedding- it’s definitely more “us” and less wedding industry hype. AND our wedding date is now the date I really wanted to begin with anyway (I’m superstitious with numbers and this date holds special meaning for us), but we decided against because it would mean a 4 year engagement. Ha! I guess the universe decided that WAS our date after all! 😆
Has anyone else experienced what they thought was “bad luck” during their planning, but it really ended up being a blessing in disguise? I’ve seen a lot of posts lately about bad luck, things not going as planned, etc. and I think it’d be great to share experiences that may be uplifting and give hope to those experiencing setbacks right now that these negatives may actually be bringing positive things to come!

Most of our planning went off without a hitch. However, we did have to reschedule due to COVID which at first I did not want to do but it worked out better for us. Having an extra year to save the $ and pay off the vendors put us in a much better financial situation. The other major issue we had was that David's Bridal literally ruined my wedding gown during alterations a week before my wedding!! I was furious and completely freaking out. They jad me choose another gown and did alterations, including adding a back lace panel which turned out gorgeous, in a few days. I actually ended up loving my new gown more than my original one and I didn't think that was possible. Everything happens for a reason.

Oh my gosh, the dress was definitely a blessing in disguise! I would have been freaking out!! 😱 But hey… it led you to your meant to be dress!
And I totally agree the extra time to save money has been really great in the long run!

Honestly, as awful as this sounds, the entire pandemic turned into a blessing in disguise for us. I got laid off from my job, so I had plenty of time last year to get all of our wedding planning down pat and done. Also, the extra money we received through unemployment, the checks we got, all of that aside from what we needed to still live went into a savings account for our wedding, so the financial burden was a LOT easier. Another one we had was we were going to use someone we knew for an officiant as she's a JP, but she backed out due to COVID reasons and we ended up finding this amazing officiant to take her place. I actually love the officiant we got and think she's going to do a better job than the first one we had would have because we just click more.

I don’t think that sounds awful at all! It’s awesome when you can find positive aspects of such a negative situation! i’ve seen so many brides on here lately that have had things going wrong during their planning, and I think this is a great way to show them that sometimes when unexpected things happen they seem absolutely horrible at first… but may end up even better on the flip side!

RAIN. 🌧 We had a back up plan and the day before we got married, we switched locations at our venue to a covered patio instead of an open lawn. It was even better! And it only drizzled during first look photos which turned out spectacular. Rain made our day so magical!

I love this!! What a great way to refocus a potential negative. Wedding planning (and life) can be so stressful. Sometimes we need to look at the other side of the coin to gain perspective.

Thank you so much, Sharon! 💕 The patio was perfect for our micro-wedding and the rain was so romantic.

Awww, what a lovely idea to focus on these things! We've definitely had some too, in rescheduling.

The first was that my hairdresser (who has my regular hairdresser for at least a decade) wouldn't even countenance looking at any of the potential dates we sent through (any thursday through saturday, for a full six month period) - she said she was fully booked, and basically, too bad. So, I had to find someone else. The new lady ended up being super lovely, the hair she did was great, and she's way cheaper. Plus, it pushed me to start going to a new salon which is way closer to my house and a lot more transparent about their prices, so all around, I'm thankful I don't have my old hair dresser!

The other thing was our celebrant, who accidentally double-booked us for our new date. She'd done weddings that both my fiance and I had been in the bridal party for, so we felt good about her and I was very anxious finding someone else at such short notice! But it made us kind of... interview our new lady a bit more, and on reflection our old celebrant had said some things that made me think she didn't really 'get' us that well, and I think the new lady is more on the same page as us.

I know rain is one of the biggest fears for brides, but man does it make for some great pictures?

This is a prime example of how when things go bad, we fear we won’t find anything as good as what we already had…. But in reality, you can find something even better! I think we all know how hard it is to find a good hairstylist (which is why we tend to keep the same one forever once we find one we like)- it’s so awesome that you not only found a better stylist for your wedding day, but also for your every day life as well!

It really was! And yes, I do think many women get SO attached to their hair dresser, so it’s very nerve wracking to lose them, especially so close to a big event. But I’ve needed to do it for ages and I’m glad I have.

It sure does, Cece! Beautiful lighting and no squinty eyes because of sun.
