Blinging Glass Votive Holders - WHere do I find the bling to DIY? -

Carole M (a.k.a "old tart"), on November 9, 2011 at 12:15 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 11

Hi everyone....I am attempting my first DIY project for my daughter's wedding. She would like 4 blinged votives around her centerpieces. She doesn't like the mesh bling, but would rather have a single strand of rhinestones around the lip of the votive holder , or a large rhinestone in the center of the votive. I have been hitting Ebay and Google and have come up confused on size and empty handed I can't even find an inspiration pic.

I am attaching pics of her centerpiece holders which are filled with another brides flower specifications.

She will be having pink hydrangea, roses, peonies, filler and hanging ivy. SHe is considering using a pink 20 X 20 napkin to put beneath the centerpiece and votives. We would like to lean more towards gold or clear rhinestones.

You can find 'stick on' rhinestone strips at any local craft store: Michaels, Joann Crafts and Fabric, Hobby Lobby, etc....Walmart. David Tutera even has a brand. If you can't find in crafts with other beads, look in scrapbooking. Lots of GORGEOUS items there you can stick on unity candles, etc. I always 'repurpose' things. I use scrapbooking items for many centerpiece bling items. :-) Best wishes on a beautiful wedding for your daughter!

Just keep in mind that if your candle holder gets warm (from the heat of the candle) that it can "melt" or loosen the glue that is holding your bling on. Just FYI Smiley smile

Wow, they are perfect Sandy! That is exactly the look she is going for . Thank you. It is nice to know since strands are available in stores. I thought we would be stuck with the mesh.

Thanks too for the wedding well wishes.

Tanya, thanks for the FYI. Is there a glue that would work better than others on this one?

Hey Carole - those are great centerpieces - where did you guys find them? How many do you have & what are you doing with them after Daughter's wedding? My wedding is 10/12/12 - I might want to buy them if you have enough :-)

I have Eiffel Tower Vases that from I gather are going to cost me a small fortune to put flowers in

Ditto simply sandy- I got amazing stick-on pearls at Joann's -they're actually David Tutera's brand. I think he has stick on rhinestones too!

    Thanks again ladies.

Marie S....The centerpieces are from her venue. The florist puts her choice of flowers on the top. Sorry.

Clare....Thank you! Altering pearl and rhinestone around a glass votive could also work.

I think that's the rhinestones that Simply Sandy was talking about.

You want to test the size on your centerpieces. Since your centerpieces are tall than Sandy's samply, you might want to use bigger rhinestones then the sample just because people may not see the small rhinestones from where they are seating.

Honey B....Thank you. I was kind of hoping I would find a string of rhinestones. PUtting individual rhinestones on 72 votives could be really tedious work.

THeresa....That is a great point, thank you.

Hot glue gun worked for me, courtesy of JLu. But in some spots you could see a little black dot. It didn't matter for me because my ribbon was lower and I had some pebbles inside. But in this case I think it would show. In any event that's what worked even with the heat from the candles.
