Bloominous!

Victoria and Ralph, on April 4, 2014 at 12:09 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 7

Has anyone ever used Bloominous for their wedding florals? Or are you planning on using it?

How is/was your experience with them?

It seems like a semi-DIY kit for florals, but I'm worried that they would be wilted by the time I get them! I have an army for my bridal party along with amazing aunts and cousins who would be thrilled to help, so I'm not concerned with putting them together the day before.

Do you think it would be less expensive to just totally DIY the florals?

I'm so glad you asked this! I've been thinking of doing the same thing and have exactly the same questions. Sorry I don't have any feedback on ordering from them, however, I found the company on apracticalwedding.com, and I figure the women over there are pretty sensible. I called the company, and they are very helpful over the phone, so that's a good start Smiley smile

As far as the freshness of flowers, I've heard that more and more online companies are offering wholesale shipment of flowers, and many come with clear care instructions and floral advisors, where you can send in your inspiration photos and they will help you build your look (and with some, a guarantee, to allow a couple of days for the blooms to open and them to revive in water, or, worst case, if they do arrive wilted, the company can resend flowers or refund you so you can find local ones - apparently it's normal for them to arrive looking wilted, but they perk back up to beautiful in a few hours). The companies I've looked into thus far include Costco (excellent reviews, assembled bouquets and loose flowers), Sam's Club (mixed reviews, assembled bouquets & loose flowers), BloomsByTheBox.com (great reviews, loose flowers), Fiftyflowers.com (good reviews, loose flowers). With Bloominous, you can order flowers separately to add to your package from their growers. Even florists are ordering them wholesale - there are plenty of reviews online.

In terms of total DIY floral cost, it depends on the type, fullness, and aesthetic look you are going for. If you are not picky or have inexpensive taste (i.e. like lots of greenery and less expensive flowers, depending on the season), that will save you money. On the flip side, I have no experience as a DIYer, let alone with flowers, so I for myself am factoring in the cost of supplies for a trial run as well as the actual wedding day flowers, as well as the time to de-thorn, trim, etc. I worry about details/unknowns, so I would even factor in the time of year and temperature, and whether you have the space to keep the flowers cool and hydrated, but since your wedding is in March in New Jersey and the kits come with instructions, I would imagine you will be fine.

Good luck, I hope you share what you decide!

I just used Bloominous for my wedding on May 31 and I HIGHLY recommend them for beautiful, fresh and gorgeous settings, that were right at my budget! The process was so simple and easy, and brought both my husband and my families together in creating the beautiful centerpieces! We got married at a winery in Santa Barbara wine country, and the natural setting was stunning enough. I didn't want to spend a ton on florals, but was also unsure of how to go about anything DIY. I learned about Bloominous and the process seemed like it would fit what I was looking for: DIY that is foolproof (since I don't consider myself to be very crafty or creative).

So here's how my experience went, it was super easy and fun! I picked the Party Pop collection because I loved the pops of coral that matched the color theme of Sage green with pops of coral. The flowers arrived on Wednesday not fully bloomed, and I prepped them to be arranged on Thursday. I learned that they had just been in the ground on Monday, so they really were as fresh as it gets! On Thursday, I had my mom, aunt, cousin, mother-in-law and dad all pitch in to make the arrangements. Although we were a bit unsure of our creative talents in the beginning, it was easy enough to learn how to put the centerpieces together, and by the end, we were all pretty impressed with our work. I was surprised at how quickly we all were able to put them together- around 3 hours for 5 people putting together about 20 centerpieces.

On my wedding day, I got so many compliments on the florals, they bloomed perfectly by Saturday, and it saved us a few thousand dollars- seriously!! Very grateful to have had Bloominous flowers for my wedding! I attached a photo of me and my family's handiwork. Thanks!

I got married in Chicago last month, and I couldn’t be happier with Bloominous. We had about a month to plan the wedding, and I was so glad when I discovered them. I immediately fell in love with their Enchanted Elegance collection. It was just what I imagined – modern looking, but also classic. I ordered about 8 bouquets (one for me and each of my bridesmaids) and 15 large centerpieces from them, and I was amazed at how easily everything could be put together. I mean really, it seriously was a surprise. The flowers arrived overnight. They were fresh, carefully packaged, and organized by set accordingly. If you’re worried about just how clear the guides are, I say don’t worry. They were incredibly straightforward and even came with pictures so you don’t get the flowers mixed up or anything.

My best friend wishes Bloominous had been around 5 years ago for her wedding. Looking at what I spent for my flowers, she thinks she spent a fortune getting a professional florist. And I agree. In fact, I think I got more than my money’s worth. My guests loved the pieces, and were amazed that my bridesmaids and I had put them together ourselves. Lol a few of them even asked if they could take the flowers home! I don’t know about you, but for me, creating something myself for my wedding made it a lot more special.

I know this post is a little old, but in case anyone is curious about Bloominous we used them and were thrilled! My wedding colors were green and white so we did a custom design based on the Eco Chic package where we took out the succulents and hypericum and added roses, ranunculus, and hydrangeas. They worked with us really well and made a set of flowers exactly like we wanted. The flowers arrived an hour earlier than expected and were fresh and beautiful on our wedding day. I would definitely recommend them!

I just wanted to leave my personal review as well. I had an awful experience with Bloominous. Initially everything went well with ordering and paying etc. I worked with one of their designers to edit one of their packages and I was super excited to receive my package. The delivery was slated for Thursday, and my wedding was the following Sunday.

When the package didn't arrive on Thursday morning before 10AM as promised I called the shipping company and Bloominous. Bloominous assured me that my package would arrive and that they have never had a package lost. I suggested that they should send out a replacement since the shipper informed me that the package was lost somewhere in Memphis. Mind you we were approaching a holiday weekend and I was freaking out that I would have no flowers for my wedding. They refused and insisted on waiting until the following day (Friday morning) before going to their contingency plan.

When surprise surprise the package didn't arrive on Friday morning (2 days before my wedding, and after 2 days of waiting at home for the package!) the owner of the company called me very apologetic and told me that it was now too late to send a replacement and he would try to contact a local florist to get me flowers that I could put together the following day (Saturday). Mind you that would mean I would be rushing the day before my wedding making 8 centerpieces, a bouquet, 20 bud vases and several boutonnieres.

They didn't have a florist on retainer or anything so they were just cold calling florists 2 days before a busy wedding weekend trying to get them to agree to this "contingency plan" Thank god one of my good friends used to be a florist and suggested we just go to the local floral warehouse and get the items ourselves. Thankfully they had everything we needed. The owner of Bloominous seemed relieved when I told him that we would just do it ourselves.

So there I was the Friday before my Sunday wedding buying my wedding flowers at the floral warehouse. I ended up having to go out of pocket for wedding flowers twice right before my wedding. This was a large unbudgeted expense and we ended up having to cut items from our wedding to cover it.

It was such a stressful situation and one I wouldn't wish on anyone a few days before their wedding. Bloominous did end up sending me a check for the cost of ribbon, floral tape, floral wire and pins that would have been included with my original order and has promised to refund me.

Please think twice about using Bloominous. If you do end up going with them make sure you have a backup plan. They continuously blamed the shipping company without taking any ownership of trying to fix the situation in a timely manner for their customer. I ended up having to pay double and spend massive amounts of time I didn't have in the hours before my wedding trying to fix this mishap. The whole business hinges on effective shipping. The package ended up arriving the Tuesday after my Sunday wedding. Needless to say I didn't accept the delivery and sent it back.
