Blow out bars?

Macey, on May 21, 2015 at 11:33 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19

Hi there... has anyone considered using a Blow out bar for their hair vs. a traditional hairstylist? My hairstylist had to cancel on me and with budget/time constraints I don't have time to start from scratch looking for someone to do my hair for the wedding. Thoughts?

I knew what they are but wanted to give a good answer so i looked it up and actually found one near me that does bridal. i say go for it. they do updos and blow outs all day so i think if its something simple it would be fine

Your wedding isn't for 3 months...how do you not have time? I spent 30 seconds on Google and found a bunch in the San Diego area.

But to answer your question, a blow out bar would be fine if thats what you want, and no intricate updos or anything

I did consider one! There are several in my area, so I checked out lots of reviews. The only complaint seemed to be the inconsistency. I don't think you can expect one specific updo from them, or that each stylist will do it the same way or well. You have to go in a little more laid back. But it's less money, and I think overall they would make your hair look nice! Just check out the reviews for bars in your area.

I should have mentioned - while i am getting married in SD - I live in Phoenix... that is why I am pressed for time... my trips back and forth to SD are getting less and less as the wedding approaches.

I appreciate each of your replies.. I guess I am looking for a way to calm my nerves.

Some of the bigger, chain blow out bars do up-do's actually. The Primp & Blow bars all over Phoenix do at least and so do some of them in Vegas.

I think it's a viable option. You could always go have a test run and then book with the same person on the wedding day. I'm getting a blowout today (first one ever) for my engagement photos!

I used a blow out bar that also does up-dos and I thought they did a great job! I did a trial but during the actual day off style I asked her to a make a couple of adjustments as we went along. She didn't mind at all so don't be afraid to speak up.

We did! We also had a semi-destination wedding, and it actually worked out way easier/cheaper for us to do it that way. 3 out of 4 of my girls did updos, I did half up, and one did a full-blown "sex on the beach" style... everyone looked fantastic. The place had rave reviews so I felt confident going into it, but I did go a couple days earlier when I got into town for a trial just in case. If possible, I would do that, even if it's just you.

I use blow out bars all the time for other people's weddings/formal events (I am TERRIBLE at hair and used to work at a salon so I'm a bit spoiled haha). They are no different from using any other stylist though - can be hit or miss. I wouldn't do it for my own wedding, cuz I want a trial and a hairdresser I trust doing it day of. But if what you want isn't super complicated, and you're not that particular, then go for it. Otherwise, use this time to find a stylist who is available your day of, and next time you are in town do a quick trial.

I didn't book my MUA/Stylist till three months out and I did it all online - by reading reviews and such. Mine ended up being top rated and was worth every penny. I've had zero luck at blow out bars. My curls never stay in so I've written them off completely. I wouldn't trust them for something like a wedding.

Do a trial run with them to make sure it's what you want. I've had my hair done by them in the past and it was a good experience. Either way, it might be a good plan to minimize cost and stress.

I didn't even know this was a thing. I'm considering getting a blow out for engagement pics in July. I'd only need it to stay for a couple of hours-- worth it then?

I would think it would be perfect for an engagement session

FutureMrsLav, I'm getting a blowout for my engagement pictures. We were supposed to do them last week but cancelled due to weather. We're doing them this Sunday. I'll let you know how it goes!

I planned everything 3.5 hours away from our venue. I wasn't in the area all that often. I called all over and looked at reviews online. I found a new hair salon in less time than 3 months after things didn't work out with the original person. I simply can't imagine you can't find an hour to do a little research and call the top 3 places for more info.

I use a blowdry bar regularly in my area. They do up do's and makeup (on weekends only for makeup). The two near me are great- but not sure if I would use one on my wedding day. I am also getting married on 8/29 and I am 3+ hours away from my venue- and I have had 2 makeup trials and 2 hair trials that did not work out- and I have since found a 3rd. You have plenty of time....

I go to DryBar here in NYC often. I love it. Its touch and go based on who you get.

I absolutely recommend it for Engagement pictures and even for your bridal hair, just make sure that for your wedding you let them know its your wedding so they give you someone good

I used a blow dry bar. Mine does all types of hairstyles and bridal trials as well.
