A computer based music source works best with small weddings -- and a wedding with 100 guests is hardly a "small" wedding. Actually, it's on the verge of being considered a large wedding.

A computer based music source works best with restaurant receptions in a private room -- an event that doesn't include a dance floor, but still includes music. If you want your 100 guests to dance, you'd be wise to cut the professional flowers, nonessential favors, sequined linens, dessert table (wedding cake is enough), upgraded chairs/chair covers, full open bar (and serve beer/wine only), and skip the videographer.

A computer based music system is nothing more than a machine, and who wants a machine to take the place of a living, breathing, human being who is monitoring the crowd and keeping the party going?

It's not optional, unless your guest list is really less than 40 people, and your reception is a 3.5 hour dinner party that nurtures socializing, eating, and drinking. Dancing? If you want dancing, hire a human being who knows exactly how to make that happen.

I'm having 50 guests or less and definitely don't have a budget for a DJ, so I am looking for a speaker too. My brother wants to be apart of something for the wedding and does not want to have to actually be in the bridal party, so he's going to do our music. He did it for my first wedding with no problems, so it will happen for this one too. Don't worry about what people say, if you cannot afford something for YOUR wedding, then you do what you have to do for YOUR wedding. Have a blast girl!

You'll probably want a couple, and Bluetooth wouldn't really work with more than one speaker unless it's a system. They have nice ones at Costco.

Are you doing this for dancing? If so, that won't be enough. If it's just for casual background music, it might be fine.

How did the tailgater work out? I’m having a really small wedding (<20 people) and I’ve been seriously considering that speaker. How big was your wedding/was it inside or outside? Thanks so much in advance!!

Hi Hannah! The tailgater worked out perfect! Our wedding had about 70ish people and it was indoors. Honestly our group wasn’t big dancers and no one missed a DJ, and not to mention it saved us a ton of money. It was easy to make a playlist and just Bluetooth connect our phones and just let the music play. I’m so glad we did it that way Smiley smile hope this helps!

Hi Chelsea, I know it's been forever but I wondered if the ION Audio Tailgater worked out?? I also don't really have room in my budget for an expensive DJ!

UPDATE: sorry, I just saw another comment saying it did work out. Thank you!

    Hi Chelsea,
We are having our wedding in an old lodge that has a super old electricity system, so a dj or any type of speaker system isn’t feasible. We were thinking of getting a large tailgater too. Did the one you got have two way capabilities; can you use a microphone through it?

That is so good to know! We are having 60 ppl at our wedding. The ceremony is outdoors, and inside for the reception. We all aren't big dancers but love music so was planning on preselected songs like we did at my sister's wedding and my future sister-in-law's wedding. We mainly need it so ppl can hear at the ceremony and speeches.

I've honestly didn't feel comfortable responding until now. My fiance and I only have a $4500 budget. I'm making decorations, making my own wedding cake (family made many wedding cakes), making the food, all to keep costs down. And I'm sorry, as much as I would enjoy a DJ, it just isn't in the budget. No way to cut the guest list...its mostly family.

How did the speaker do? That is the one I am contemplating on getting for my wedding this May. Would you recommend it?

Edit: Sorry. Just saw your response. Should have looked further before jumping to this. Smiley smile Just eager to get things done for my wedding.
