Bodybuilder fiancée-tux?

Rebecca, on January 15, 2016 at 11:23 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13

My fiancées a big guy; huge shoulders & a small waist. He's certain he's wearing a tux but renting a "standard size" to fit the shoulder will be swimming in the waist.

Are there any places that rent for these types of different shapes? I'm pretty sure it would be insanely expensive to buy one!

You may need to buy at least the jacket to have it tailored to him.

I know you said he wants a tux, but you might be better off buying black suits. That way everything can be tailored to him. A tux would be a lot more expensive to buy.

I would probably go to a tux store and chat with them though. Find out what they suggest and how much it costs to buy a tux.

Heads up that I wouldn't go to men's wear house for the chat. I tried asking them questions 6 months out and they wouldn't answer them. They kept saying I had so much time. It was a super frustrating experience.

I'm also going to say you probably will need to buy something to have it tailored. Have him get a consultation with a men's ware store.

FH isn't a bodybuilder, but he does lift and has the broad shoulder/tiny waist problem. Every suit he owns makes him look like he's a kid playing dress up because of the way it draped around his waist.

Instead of renting a tux, we went the route of purchasing a suit and having it tailored. We went to a Mens Wearhouse Outlet, and it looks amazing on him.

Have you checked out the menswear stores that specialize in Big & Tall sizes?

I think it's a fantastic idea to check the prices of buying a custom coat only for him! That was a great idea. He's dead set on the tux & I want him to feel as amazing as he is Smiley smile

If you go the coat route, make sure you get the same designer as the pants will be, so the colors aren't off! Lol!

DF wants a cutaway tailcoat, and we're doing a super small wedding. I figure it'll look good in pics and he has to wear it, so go for it!

Has he actually tried on a rental tux? My FH is also basically a bodybuilder and I was really worried about how the tux would fit. At Mens Warehouse the difference between buying and renting was like $600. Surprisingly though, when he tried on a rental it fit decently. It was slightly tight in the arms- but not tight enough to go up a size and have everything else be big.

Go with a suit and get it tailored. It's just easier and he'll be able to wear it again. Worth the investment.

New Orleans has a company called Tuxedos to Geaux that offers a $169 tuxedo set PURCHASE and free alterations. We are definitely using them for our guys... its cheaper than a rental at some places! Do some digging, and depending on where you live, there might be a company that does something similar? Then you can tailor the tux jacket for him. Good luck!

If you rent 6 suits/tuxes at men's wear house you get $400 towards the purchase of a suit. If you have that many guys renting it might be worth it to go with that deal and just buy your FH's there.

The men's wearhouse deal is great! I didn't think about those deals, as long as the can apply it to a tux. I'll look into that & also something like the NOLA company! If they do it there has to be others! Smiley smile

I do know it's a tux for sure, I don't think he would even consider a suit but were just trying to be cost effective! we bought a suit (just a suit) for him about 4months ago at mens wearhouse & tailored it, it was over $1000. A whole paycheck lol
