Bold Colors and Burlap Help

Bethany Ann, on November 22, 2016 at 11:40 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 25

Has anyone incorporated bright colors (pictured below) with earth tones, such as lace and burlap, into their decor? Do you think it could work?

I think burlap is awful- so I'm a hard pass.

But it could work if you used the burlap sparingly.

Lace and burlap are neutral and would look fine w/ bright flowers.

@jorocka Our reception is in a barn. At least minimal burlap is a must!

Being that you have sunflowers in there, I think burlap works well. I would focus on the bright floral colors and use the burlap very discreetly.

Burlap and lace can work, especially with a barn reception. That bouquet is beautiful! Even wrapped around the stems, I think either burlap or lace could work; lace might work better to brighten it up. I had burlap wrapped around my sunflower/wildflower bouquet stems. The sunflowers are bright and bold and work well with burlap (and lace).

This can definitely work! I agree with @Rachel Langerhans Photography's suggestion of using sunflowers - those work really well!

Neutrals work with any wedding decor. If you love burlap go for it, but is you don't it's not required for a rustic barn wedding. Burlap is itchy though so I don't think you will want it on the handle of your bouquet.

They used burlap for my engagement party and it turned out simply gorgeous with orange roses!

I grew up on a ranch. And my horse is now kept at a very lovely barn.

There is no burlap there.... None. It's not a minimum requirement. It's something you want because Pinterest has told you that's what *rustic * looks like. I can assure you. It does not.

But as noted. They are neutrals. It literally doesn't matter.

There will be some burlap. Period. I'm asking if it would look okay with flowers such as these. We actually have old burlap feed bags hanging as decor in our personal barn that have been there long before Pinterest.

That's a pretty classic combination. You can easily find pics on Pinterest of what you've described.

@going to the chapel, I actually haven't been able to find anything on Pinterest with both the purple/orange color combination and burlap. I've only been able to find sunflowers and burlap.

While I agree with @Jo, I'm not going to jump into what OP tried to turn into an argument. My only statement is that no, burlap is not, nor has it ever been, "classic." Burlap is a trend that is finally (thank God!) dying out.

In 25 years, everyone who has burlap in their wedding photos will be able to look at them and tell, without a doubt, they were from the 2010's.

I grew up on a farm. Burlap to me screams feed bags, associated with dirt, mud, and shit.

It is extremely uncomfortable to touch and it sheds Everywhere.

I will never understand the novelty of using it as decor. I hope the trend dies out very soon.

In any case, it will look fine with those colors.

I think it would work. But I'm so over burlap.. but that's my opinion for my own wedding.

This could definetely be pulled off and look great!
