Book make-up and hair by the same company or separate individuals?

*sayre_ah*, on November 21, 2017 at 7:27 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7

I'm going to have myself, 6 bridesmaids, mother of the groom and mother of the bride - makeup and hair for all. What has been your experience on what's better? Booking a hair stylist and booking a makeup artist separate from each other and excel in their fields OR book under one company that can provide both and have experience working together?

Thanks!!

I used one that had both, but they had great deals and amazing work. Many of the stylists were well trained in both, but in my case, they had one stylist doing makeup (for 2) and one doing hair (for 4).

Together worked best for me. The less vendors the less hassle and confirming appts plus when you do the trial that's two separate trials..

I think this just really comes down to what you want and expect, personally. the MUA I hired was my #1 choice, but does not do hair, so that was pretty easy for me. So My hair stylist is from a different company.

There are a ton of companies/salons that can provide both. We wanted on site, which played a factor, too.

I booked a salon that is providing two hair stylists, two makeup artists, and an assistant for 6 people (bride, 3 BMs, 2 moms).

I was just a bridesmaid in a wedding that had separate hair and makeup companies. While they both did a good job, payment was very confusing since the stylists didn't know how much to charge us (bride paid half of makeup in advance) and they arrived/left at different times. It would have been faster and easier to have people working together that normally work together, especially since there were 12 of us getting our hair and makeup done.

I wanted together for sure for a couple reasons:

    1) the less individual vendors I had to worry about coordinating leading up to the wedding, and the less individual vendors I have to worry about getting to where they need to be on time and doing what they need tpndo on time on my wedding morning, the better

    2) I feel like my wedding "look" is a whole vision, and would come out the best if the hair and makeup artists are on the same page. In fact when I do my trial, mine wants to see my wedding jewelry, veil, pictures of the dress, etc, so she can make a cohesive look

I booked separate. The hair stylist is someone I have worked with before. The MUA has people in her company that does hair. But my hair stylist was extremely talented (like I got just as many compliments on my hair as I did my dress...). Plus she worked with me I choosing a color for my hair extensions.

Technically my hair stylist can do both but she wouldn't have enough time to do hair and make-up for 3 people. The MUA I booked has a bit more experience so that was another reason I chose her for make-up.

It might have required a bit extra time on my end to coordinate timing on who was getting hair vs make-up done at what time but honestly not a huge deal. I much rather get the people I wanted than worry about saving 20-30 minutes of "coordination time".
