How much time passed between your initial conversation with your photographer and the date you put your deposit down?

I took my time making the decision, but the first conversation to deposit and contract was about 8-10 weeks. I could have pulled the trigger quicker lol. Communication was consistent and quick, I just needed to make sure I was happy with the decision. My wedding is out of the country so I also couldn’t meet the photographers and had to base my choice on reliable email correspondence.

It took me about 2 weeks to analyze the quotes and make a photographer selection. If you drag it out too long you run the risk of losing their availability for your day. In my area, the only way to secure the date is the paid deposit.

I think it ended up being 2-3 weeks from the date we initially met with our photographer until we paid the deposit. We pretty much knew the day we initially met with them that we wanted to book them, so we didn't want to wait too long to pay the deposit.

It was about 2 months between initial meeting and paying the deposit to secure our date. We booked a little over a year out. My hesitation was mainly due to cost, his packages started above our price range (one reason I hate vendors not listing prices on their website and forcing you to contact them). However, once we discussed, he was willing to customize a package for us, and I had already fallen in love with his style and portfolio so I was sold. It took a little longer to sell FH on him, but after he looked at other photographers in the area he realized we would be majorly sacrificing quality going with a cheaper photographer.

We’re having a destination wedding, so I didn’t meet with any of our vendors in person, besides our venue. I researched photographers, sent emails and had conversations with the top three who made the cut. I had already seen our photographer’s pictures, read reviews and when we spoke, the conversation went well. Then she informed me that she shot a wedding at our same venue (which was isn’t too common since it’s an unconventional spot not often used for weddings). After we got off the phone, she sent pictures from that wedding and it sealed the deal. The photographer sent her contract, I signed and sent a deposit and it all happened in the same day.

It was a total of 3 weeks week 1 we met with one photographer. Second week we met with the second and the third week we decided between the two and booked and paid for the one. I would not wait too long if you know your going with them so they don’t give your date to someone else

One week. All of the photographers I wanted were booked, even though the wedding was over 7 months away! So when I found another photographer I liked and he was reasonable and available, I booked right away.
