Booking wedding

Rosanna, on September 7, 2020 at 12:20 PM Posted in Planning 0 5
Hi! I'm just curious if anyone has planned a destination wedding for next year recently? (During COVID) We are so unsure what to do! We're currently looking at St Lucia or Antigua. My fiances aunt is a travel agent and is telling us to wait. Just curious what other brides have done or been doing. Thank you!

I don't have a destination wedding planned for 2021 (I'm doing a semi-destination wedding in 2022), but if I were planning one, I think it would depend on the time of year for next year. I personally be hesitant to plan something for early spring or before, since it's unclear where COVID will be, but maybe end of next summer/fall and beyond might be OK. I would check the venue's postponement/cancellation policy before booking, just in case.

We have a destination wedding planned. We booked pre covid, and have postponed to May 2021. If I was starting to plan now, we’ll I wouldn’t lol the problem I faced during all this pandemic crap, is it is much harder to get any money back. The stress is overwhelming. I keep telling myself I have 8 months to go, but my heart is saying it’s going to be cancelled. I would feel comfortable booking for 2022 at this point. The other very challenging part for me is the cost and inconvenience to the guests. I have 5 people who have booked flights and those flights are no refunds, only travel credit. I am constantly thinking about how this is going to affect those people. Then on top of that is the international travel restrictions and quarantine rules. What a pain hahaha

Ps I love love st lucia, and Antigua is beautiful, great choices!

I plan to do a destination elopement but it will be domestic and not international. I agree with the aunt. I don't recommend putting money down for an international destination wedding when these times being very uncertain.

My FH and I booked our wedding in Jamaica for June 2021 pre-covid. The resort is all inclusive and requires a full head count (20-30 guess) 90 days before the wedding date. This also includes that all guess rooms are paid in full. 6 months before the wedding (Jan 2021) we can cancel or postpone without a penalty. If travel or covid is an issue at that time, we will be given the option to postpone to a later date of our choosing. Knowing this made us feel more comfortable knowing we wouldn't be out of any money, and that we would also be the ones to choose the new date. We also made it mandatory with our travel agent that all guess are required to get travel protection with the resort when reserving their room. This covers them in the event that they choose to cancel or no longer wish to attend, they will get a full refund. I highly recommend the travel protection if the resorts your looking at offers it. To my surprise, my resort has been doing well with handling covid. Now, that could just be because we still have a while to go before our wedding, but they have answered all our questions and we still plan to attend. With so many postponement from 2020 to 2021, resorts and venues are filling quickly so make sure you do your homework before signing the paperwork. If you decide next year is the year, consider later in 2021 to give yourself time to see how things will turn out. Your guess may also need the time to plan financially. Honestly, our biggest concern was passports for us and our guess. There was a very large backlog due to covid and a much longer processing time. Luckily, the backlog seems to be diminishing and they plan to have passports back to normal processing sometime in October. That's another thing to keep in mind when planning. Best of luck and I hope this helps.
