Bored with wedding planning lull, what can i do?

Jasmine S., on June 1, 2021 at 9:49 AM Posted in Planning 0 7
Hey everyone, I have 11.5 months to go until the big day (we postponed to 2022 for COVID). Now that it's less than a year I've been really excited and getting the itch to plan again. We had all our vendors booked already, so I haven't done anything in months. I know I don't need to reach out to them again until later in the summer.

I'm having my first alterations consultation next month and have ordered accessories for that. Are there any other steps I can work on, or do I just have to sit and wait for 2 months? I'm so impatient and tired of just scrolling through Pinterest!

Do you have any decor yet? Favors? You could always try to knock that stuff out if you haven't done so already! If you're having a bridal party and they don't have their gowns yet, that could be a fun thing to do with them as well, especially now that things are seeming to start opening up again. I was the same way as you when I hit that point, and I don't know if it's an option for you, but our venue offers multiple tastings and you pay $30 a person but get a ton of food to try and they're all different depending on the season. So we scheduled 2 food tastings! One with my dad and one with FH's parents to try some different foods, plus we got to go to the venue which made us really excited as well. I know not every venue offers this, though. We also waited to do our engagement photos until 11 months before our wedding, so we had that excitement as well and then we designed our Save the Dates and sent them out at the 8 month mark due to the number of out of staters we had. Do you have someone designing your invitations and Save the Dates? If not, you could always start looking into that as well!

These are actually good ideas. I forgot we are doing some decorations! The other stuff I can't really do yet; our caterer does tastings at real weddings, so they would have to invite us based on their schedule of when they're doing other events. My fiancé's sister will design invites for us in the winter. So I guess I should focus on the DIY. Thank you!

I'm sorry, your caterer does what now? That's wild. I'm assuming they just prepare extra of whatever they're already making and have you meet at their location and not wherever someone's actual wedding is taking place. If they have you crash someone's wedding to taste their food I would be so uncomfy.

When I worked at a venue I had so many potential brides ask to come in on a Saturday when we were set-up for a wedding to do a tour and I had to tell them no every time because they wouldn't want me tied up/doing a tour on their wedding day so I would never dare to do it to another bride.

As to what you can do in the meantime, you could also work on picking out your music selections (ceremony music like entrance, exit, readings/unity ceremony) or doing research into what you need for our actual marriage license and how to change your name if you're doing that.

Haha, they really do it at actual weddings, not their office! Not like sitting with the guests obviously, but they take clients into a back room or into the kitchen and let them sample everything. I'm just not sure how soon they can do that for us. Obviously with COVID there are more restrictions and they may not be allowed to let extra people in yet.

Picking our ceremony music is a good suggestion! I didn't realize how many songs we needed.

Hello I’m getting married in November of this year. So in my spare time I’ve been doing things for my bridesmaids. Like Gift bags full of things from me.

Ahh I know that lull! If I could do it over again I would have started my timeline then. I learned later many vendors need to know who/how to contact/when other vendors are arriving. I made the same timeline for all and sent copies to each. Example: linens to be on tables at 9:00am, florist arrives at 9:15am to place centerpieces on tables, DJ arrives at 2:00pm and needs to be let in back door to setup equipment, etc.

I included contact name and cell phone so if a vendor gets locked out, florist needs to know when cake arrives to put flowers on it, etc. they all referred to the same timeline and can ask each other (aka not call the bride!). This was one of the hardest tasks I had so if possible to start it early, go for it 👍❤️ Hope this helps!! 🌸

Thank you so much! I know a lot of this depends on how early the venue will let us in. It can't hurt to find out!
