Ok, so i'm re-posting my response to someone else's thread, in hopes to start a new one Smiley winking lol has anyone ever been to a wedding and/or reception, and been bored to tears?? (no real names, please. let's spare the boring...) Here's mine:

...a less than eventful reception at one of my cousins' weddings... it was a 10am ceremony, and we were told that the reception is over at 4 (it was in a restaurant, so we HAD to be out). to start, it was a cramped room, and she had a friend play DJ for the afternoon... he didn't have a playlist going, so every 10-15 minutes, the music would stop for a good 6-10 minutes. (most) everyone got so bored, that there are pics (she doesn't know; she was having a great time, thank goodness) of people sleeping on their plates because dinner wasn't being served until 3. Yes, 3. did i mention that the reception end time was 4pm??

Entertainment was one of my must haves.... lol

A few months ago we went to the worst wedding reception ever. It was so empty by 8:30, and everyone was gone by 9:00...and it started at 5:30! The reason...the DJ. She was awful. The only people on the dance floor were the kids. I learned really quickly that a good DJ is a must for us (we're looking for the party afterwards) Smiley smile

    Jackie,

Funny you bring this up. Just last friday, my bride had told me a very similar story about some of her cousin's weddings she had attended this year.

Very long and drawn out reception with little time for dancing.

The one thing to remember is, what do people remember the most about weddings? Is it the prime rib, the centerpieces, or the chair covers and bows? Nope. People remember if they had fun and if they danced. That's why it is SOOOO important to find the right entertainment for your special day. Don't think of your DJ as a human iPOD, think of them as an investment. As you learned from the snoozer you attended, you get one shot, make it count!

    Hi Jacki!

For a DJ, weddings are very personalized. When you sit down with your entertainer, making sure that they are a good fit for your celebration is of the utmost importance. Having friends or family 'PLAY DJ' as you put it typically (not always) ends in an empty dancefloor.

A wedding professional will have the resources and music to ensure that the B&G get the music that they want and the experience to see to it that the reception runs smoothly. There's alot more that goes into a wedding DJ than most think.

Price is always a factor when making an investment but the key to a successful wedding is making the right investment. You get one shot. There are no do overs.

Not to knock anyone but the most snoozeworthy weddings I've attended is when there was no music at all. I understand that it was a Pentecostal wedding but they could've played some background music. I was falling asleep.

At another wedding, the DJ played the traditional line dances but only little kids did them. Not one adult joined them.
