Boudoir Photo tips

Alexis, on August 8, 2019 at 12:01 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 4

Hi there! I have scheduled a boudoir shoot with this great photographer and she has an awesome setup. Amazing place, hair and makeup are included, champagne while you get ready, all of it. I'm super excited! I'm looking for tips and tricks or experiences from others. I'm not overly modest or shy but trying to get in that mindset and feel sexy so it looks sexy is always an interesting idea when a stranger is photographing you haha. Also I get 5-6 outfits and I'm lucky enough to have a lingerie shower being thrown for me before my shoot so I should have some good outfits haha. My fiance is a firefighter so I'm going to swipe his turnouts and helmet for the shoot. Im hoping you guys can help me come up with some other good ideas too! I was told something simple can work well too. Sports jersey? Slightly see-though white tee? Something with my veil?

How about wearing nothing! LOL, just kidding. I did an (embarrassing) boudoir a few years ago when we were only dating. I hated the photos because I felt like they looked like I was trying too hard....but he still has them and still takes them out to look at. I won't have time to do one before our wedding or for his birthday this year, so I was thinking of going all out with one for our one year anniversary next summer. If I were to go into it again some advice I would give myself would be: POSE MORE! Get in as many different poses as you can even if some of them feel awkward because the chances of having nice flattering poses will be way higher. Also do a lot with your face: I tried to have this sultry glare in all my photos and I look so serious in every single one - so try smiling, laughing, staring, opening your mouth, closing your mouth, smirking, EVERYTHING. Also, make sure you tell your photographer what parts of your body you love most, what parts your FH loves most, what parts you think you'd like to look a little better, etc. that way they know what poses to put you in and have an idea of how you want to look. Also, I think it is easier when a stranger is photographing you - I knew my photographer and it was weird for me to be how I am behind closed doors in front of someone I see on a regular basis, so yeah just go all out and remember this is for your FH not the photographer so don't be shy - you'll never see them again. And as far as what to wear, I personally think the white T-shirt/frilly PJs, just woke up in bed and feeling frisky look would be super cute!

I posted these tips last week! I had my shoot the weekend before!

    1. Choose a photographer whose photos you love!

    2. Ask for recommendations. I found mine via recommendation of a friend.

    3. Look for a photographer who is communicative and willing to answer all of your questions. If they’re open and honest and willing to answer your questions, chances are they will be sensitive to any apprehension or nervousness at the shoot.

    4. Be willing to try poses that make you uncomfortable. She had me get into some really “vulnerable” positions, but the pictures turned out gorgeous!

    5. Get your hair and makeup done by a professional! It makes a huuuuuuuge difference!

    6. Drink a butt-ton of water in the days before your shoot. My skin was way more “glowy” than normal and it showed in the pictures.

    7. Choose outfits that you are comfortable in and that fit your personality.

    8. Bring your bridal gear! I wore my veil and wedding jewelry and it was so beautiful! I wish I’d had a garter, but I haven’t ordered it yet. ☹️

    9. Show some boob! Seriously! I hadn’t planned on it, but we ended up taking some “uncovered” photos. They’re Aaaaaaamazing!

    10. Bring a friend! One of my close friends had her photos taken too and it was so great to have her there to make me laugh and calm down.

    11. Bring a fan! I got so sweaty from all of the posing. It was nice to stand in front of my fan to cool down!

    12. Pop an Ibuprofen or two! You will be sore the next day!

That sounds like so much fun, and you have some awesome ideas already!! Smiley smile

I had considered doing one, but it wasn't really in the budget at the time - I had tentatively picked out cute floral pj shorts & a white tank top, and was considering stealing one of his button-up shirts as well.

Practicing in the mirror was super helpful for me before our wedding photos, so I would say it's worth a try!
