Boudoir Photos... Should I???

Glenda, on April 13, 2013 at 8:42 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 19

Hi....

So, for ages I thought this trend was just silly and I wasn't interested but now there's a $70 Living Social voucher (boudoir photography package with three outfit changes--30-minute photo session, two 5x7 prints, two digital 8x10 images, & printing rights). And now I'm tempted.

I think one reason I'm hesitant is that I am overweight--are there any tubby gals out there who did these and weren't happy with the results?

Does anyone think that this is NOT a decent deal?

I feel like my judgment is mushy right now. I just got back from visiting FH in the hospital--he now has both pneumonia and a staph infection, so visitors have to wear a mask, gown, and gloves. It wasn't the usual paper masks but the heavy duty ones, so I was seriously breathing in my own carbon monoxide for a good three hours. I think lack of CO2 might be causing me to think I should spend $70 on boudoir photos...

I personally don't know what my FH would do with a boudoir shoot. The album would be hidden away, and eventually be found by our future children. NOT something I really care to happen. And he's the type of person who would totally only look at the pictures once, and never look at them again. It's not that he wouldn't think I was hot in them, but he gets to see me in my underwear every day! I actually won a boudoir shoot, and he said "that's weird" when I explained what it is. lol I didn't use it.

But to your point, that sounds like a great deal! I know those photographers really make you feel comfortable, and help you pose in ways that make you look even more sexy than you already are! Smiley winking If you want to, I say do it!

I actually really enjoyed doing the pictures. I am not very self confident but I think I saw myself differently after. I look like a 1940's pin up...everything is covered...but I loved it. Future husband will think it is beautiful and it will be in a lock box in his desk. The older I get the less I like my pictures...I might as well capture myself right here and now in time.

Oh you totally SHOULD Smiley smile I did mine about a month ago and honest to God I have never been more confident. We have made a deal that there has been no intimacy until our wedding night and im giving him the "little black book" morning of the wedding and he'll be in awe. My wedding photographer actually took them for me, he had never shot a boudoir shoot before and honestly i was a little hesitant in the beginning but i totally rocked it after about 15 minutes, shoot lasted almost 2 hours, i did 7 changes, my favorite were in his football jersey and yes i did do some photos where i was only where a thong but they were so tastefully done, i would not have a problem putting them up in our house. I feel like a million bucks after it and it is also another good excuse to put the wedding binder away and get your hair done, makeup done, do some lingerie shopping and HAVE FUN!

I've been sitting here thinking about it and I think I'm hoping it'll restore my confidence, help me feel a little better about myself, and such... I think I'm now thinking of doing it as much for me as I am for him.

FH has been sick (cancer) for over two years so I've put on a lot of weight over the past 18 months--the ups and downs with his health have been so stressful.

I'm sorry your FH has been so sick! That has got to be extremly hard!! I say do it. I know some guys are into lingerie & some not so much. My FH is really into it & I don't put it on enough. I just posted a thread about this, but I am searching for some outfits that don't cost $100 a piece. I was showing FH one of my friend's boudior pics (she's a bigger girl & I was asking him if he thought she looked gross, b/c I am heavier right now & feeling self conscious) and he said she looked beautiful b/c she carries herself with confidence. I need to remember this for myself even when I'm feeling fat....guys are attracted to confidence! Besides all of our FHs love us as we are or they wouldn't be marrying us right? I think your FH would enjoy your pics, just show confidence in those photos! Smiley smile

I just realized the same photographer has the same deal for $69 on Groupon, which has 15% cashback if you purchase via Discover, so really it's like getting it for $59...

After reading the deal on Groupon, which has slightly different phrasing than Living Social's version, I realized you don't get the digital reprint rights to ALL of the photos--it's kind of tricky how it's worded! They give you two 5x7 prints (two different poses), plus give you the high res digital version of those same two photos so you can print them yourself in 8x10 if you want. I'll end up spending A LOT more than I was initially thinking, but I'm going to go for it anyway...

Thanks for your encouragement and insights!

That is a way better deal than my groupon! I used tait photography, incase you want to.see their photos. I loved it. I got my makeup and hair done before the pictures which was a lot of fun. (I used it ad a makeup trial to see if I liked a really dark look for my wedding which I did!) I didn't feel super comfortable at first bevause the poses were a little difficult and awkward feeling, but I really am glad i did it the pictures were so worth it and beautiful!

@Future Mrs McCrary, I think looking at the website of the photographer helped sell me on it a little. I know you're not in Indiana and it'll depend on your photographer but the one I will be using does a lot of airbrushing/photoshopping (I need it). I was fascinated by the before and after pics on the website:

There are a lot of heavy women featured in the photo gallery too. Some photos are better than others but mostly they look good.

If you do it, do it for you. Don't worry about the extra weight, it happens, your still the same gorgeous and amazing woman that you have always been. You have nothing to feel bad about, the way I look at my extra pounds is that my body could not contain my awesomeness and had to let some out. It's all good, you are just as sexy and incredible as ever, and just think how much stronger you are now than you were before because of what you and your FH are going through. You need to celebrate you, your incredible strength and womanhood! For you.

    Aww, Dominika, thanks!

I am kind of excited now, although I do plan to put off the photo shoot for awhile. I've, um, yet to start shopping for a wedding dress! I am coming up on the 6 month mark so I really need to get on it!

I won a boudoir photo shoot through a wedding expo I went to and loved it! FH doesn't look at it all the time, but he does take a peak and has a few of the close up facial pictures in his wallet (loves showing them off).

Although they aren't seen all the time it was a major confident boost and was a fun time just getting the photos done! I would say do it!! Smiley smile

I say do it!!! I am planning on doing one for my fiance and I am not a confident person AT ALL! I think you'll be happy with the results. And your future hubby will love the pics no matter what. He is after all marrying you, so why wouldnt he want that as a special treat. My only advice is to be sure your photos arent going to be used for marketing materials by the photographer or be posted online everywhere. I had a friend get hers done and next thing she knew hers were on his Facebook Fan Page. Apparently she didnt read the entire contract. Which I'm sure is ok for some people I just rather mine be kept private.

I probably would if i found a deal like that! i live in a rural area.. so not sure if I could find a "groupon" type deal. i am also overweight by 50#s and maybe it could boost my confidence too Smiley smile FH would love it i'm sure!

So sorry to hear about your FH and hope he is in recovery mode soon!

    Thanks again, everyone!

@Jennifer M--that's a good tip! The FAQ page says they only add photos to the gallery with the written consent of the model but it's always good to double check all that all the same!

DO IT! FH loves you enough to pledge the rest of his life to you, so I'm going to assume that he will think you are smokin hot in some personal shots that will be taken with just him in mind! Not everyone can be "perfect" but you are perfectly his Smiley smile

I love the idea of barring off intimacy for a bit (let's be honest, the stress levels two weeks or more before the wedding is not conducive to sexy time, so that won't be that hard) and surprising him with the photos the day of the wedding. I might have to look into that ..
