Bouquet- What to do after?

JerseyGirl, on February 24, 2017 at 5:40 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 26

What are you doing with your bouquet after the wedding?

I kinda want to find a way to save it if possible but I don't know how feasible this is. What else do you do with it?

My friend's bouquet was red roses, so it was really easy to dry them out and save. I think she made a shadow box and added them.

It really depends what flowers you used, but probably best just to toss it. Most flowers don't look great when they are dried. I know you want to get sentimental about every little thing wedding-related, but you have to draw the line at some things Smiley smile

If you are super sentimental, maybe save a few petals and dry them out.

Edit: I thought you were asking after the ceremony, not event. I'm not saving mine. But you could consult your florist about what flowers preserve easily.

I don't think its unusual for people to preserve their bouquets like the would their wedding dress... I personally am not. but you can definitely talk to your florist about this service.

Instead- all my wedding party florals are being donated to an assisted living/nursing home so some of their patients can enjoy them after we are done with them.

We're giving the bouquet to the longest married couple in attendance, sort of a symbolic gesture of what we have to look forward to/strive for. There aren't any single ladies to toss it to, so this was the alternative I came up with.

@APZ we are donating our centerpieces to a nursing home. My bouquet I was considering trying to preserve. I love the shadowbox idea and so glad to see others have been able to do it. @MB2MA did you dry it yourself?

Yeah, I have no idea if the flowers in my bouquet save well, but I pressed them about 1 1/2 months ago, and when I get the time, I'm going to make a shadowbox type deal, but I was just going to glue the flowers to a canvas. I cut all of the flowers apart, so it's going going to preserved as a bouquet.

I dried my flowers and put them in a small shadow box. I think it measures 10x10.

I'll either give it to FH grandma or toss it. By the time we get back from Thailand it'll be dead. Preserved flowers are pretty but long term I think it's a waste of money. It seems a little weird to have your wedding bouquet displayed 20 years after the wedding.

ETA- toss it meaning in the garbage. Not toss it to someone. My florist is making me a tossing bouquet at no additional charge.

I read an article a few months ago on a blog and she demonstrated 3 different ways to preserve flowers. The ones dried via Silica gel were by far the most beautifully preserved! Check Pinterest, I think that is where I found it.

I gave mine to my grandmother. She took it apart and placed most of the flowers, in the built-in vase on my grandfather's grave plaque.
