bow ties versus neckties

We'llAlwaysHaveParis, on January 29, 2013 at 3:41 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 16

It didn't occur to me that FH would want to wear a bow tie with his tux, but he told me no way to the necktie (he wears a necktie to work pretty much every day so I guess it's not "special" enough).

Does anyone still wear bow ties? I personally hate the look, but he was so surprised that I would expect him to wear anything other than a bowtie that I felt like I just had to suck it up LOL

I just hope I don't laugh at him :-p

Oh, and we're having an early evening (4-8 maybe) reception. That seems kind of early for a bowtie. Actually the whole thing seems out of character for my tiny hometown in rural western PA.

FH actually looks quite debonair, but I've always seen it as something he HAD to wear on the rare occasion that he did, and that he wouldn't actually CHOOSE to wear one. It was just a shock. I imagine there will be more LOL

I love the old school bow tie look, especially when they're undone and hanging around the neck, a la Cary Grant.

FH hates them, and insists on a necktie. I guess I lose that battle.

Ok...so FH and I had this discussion because my uncle pointed out to him that he should stand out like the bride so he doesn't get taken for as a waiter...thanks uncle mike. So this has turned into a fashion nightmare. Currently the men will be wearing Navy suits with Green ties...groomsmen get bowties and he wants regular tie to stand apart. I really like the bowties!

I told my FH he's wearing a bow tie and he was totally on board Smiley smile It works super well with my venue and decor.

I think they are super classy.

We are doing neck ties but that is because FH says bow ties remind how of that peewee herman so we are doing black tuxes with vest and ties

our wedding as I posted before will be at 2 and then reception at 6

I've seen bow ties look very classy. If the groom is confident wearing a bow tie, it will not look silly.

*beats wedding wire* didn't let me post!

I agree with sundaycupcake. A man can look QUITE dapper in a bow tie!

See Pic below. I had a photograph I found to post, but it won't post. Ugh.

I really didn't have a preference between tie or bow tie, so I let it up to the guys and they went with the euro tie with the exception of my 11 year old son who really wants to wear a bow tie with his vest. He's walking me down the aisle and we're letting him wear his bowtie

My FH would be thrilled if I let him wear a bow tie. We are both huge "Dr. Who" fans... "Bow ties are cool!". I might let him wear it since he won't be having a grooms cake that looks like the Tardis.

M originally wanted a bow tie, but then we found a paisley tie that went with his vest and the bow tie was out lol. I think they both look nice, although I do favor neck ties more.

I love the regular neck tie. I think bow ties look silly . . . but then he isn't telling what to wear, so I won't tell him what to wear. I'll only drop a hint every time he turns the corner ;-)

I'm so glad other people are doing bowties! My FH (and brother) insisted on them. My brother wanted them at his wedding but my SIL wanted neckties. I didn't really mind one way or the other but preferred the neckties. I figured I picked most of the wedding details... the least I could do was let him pick what type of tie he wanted. Smiley smile He looks great no matter what!
