BR~ Potty training

~*DesigningBride12*~, on March 25, 2011 at 3:02 PM Posted in Married Life 0 16

Ok My daughter will be 2 on April 8 and I have done just about everything (besides taping her down on the potty all day) to get her to go to the potty!! I think she is ready because she takes her pants off, pamper and everything when she wets.. I have let her go "Free and she ends up in a puddle... she says potty but that usually means she has already gone...

They say girls are easier... It has been 10 years but my son was a whole lot easier... Any advice would be great Ladies.. Thanks in advance *goes and cleans up the puddles*

I have been through 3 already and am currently potty training the fourth. Doesn't matter girls or boys they are all different. Let's see things that have worked. Putting a training potty in the living room and letting them sit on it all day. Giving them M&M's each time they go potty. Usually just 2 or 3. Make a HUGE deal each time they go. As soon as they get up take them potty then take them every 30 minutes or so. Now mind you my daughter will be 3 in May and still is not trained. She has also been sick a few times and that has delayed training. Some children will not train at 2. Some will train at 15 months. They are all individual. My daughter started telling us she needed to go. Grabbing herself before she went and everything around 16 months. We are still training. Sometimes we can go days without an accident. Then we are back to square one. I believe Pull Ups has some potty dance videos on their website as well. If I remember more things that worked I will post.

I have 2 boys, and the thing that worked the best for us, after trying many other methods, was just setting a day for no more diapers/pull-ups and put them in big kid undies. We made sure to pick a day at least a week out, and then made a big deal out of going shopping and buying underwear, and about the day coming up to get them excited. The first 3 days sucked because we were constantly cleaning up messes, but then it just sunk in and we never looked back. Just make sure that if she is in childcare, your provider is on board too.

I have potty trained 4 kids and 1 grandbaby and as stated they were all different. My kids seemed a lot easier than my grandbaby was, it took getting a star chart and FH telling her when she got 7 stars she could go to the store and pick out a toy and when she got the chart filled up she could get a puppy, which was big for him because he is a cat person, lol. Well it worked, she filled it up and we went and adopted a puppy for her which she picked out.

I am in the process of potty training now too! It is difficult, but depending how vocal your little girl is, don't let her tell you no if she says she doesn't have to go potty, just sit her on it as much as possible and eventually she will want to go when she has to.

My daughter is 5 and has been potty trained since she was 2, She was EASY!!! We only went through 1 pack of Pull Ups. We put panties on her and after lots and lots of accidents, she didnt like being wet so she started using the potty like a girl...Dont get me wrong we didnt make her sit in it, but she realized panties dont absorb like diapers do...Now I am trying to potty train my son who will be 3 in june, and I tell ya its sooooo much harder!!!!!! Smiley sad would love to not have to buy diapers!! lol

I was watching super nanny and I remember nanny Jo saying that a LO is ready for potty training if they go down for their afternoon nap with a dry diaper and are still dry when they wake up (consistently). Apparently it means that they've got a bit of bladder control and are most likely physically ready to be potty trained.

My cousin did a "potty dance" every time her daughter went, clapping and singing and dancing around, her daughter loved it. She also did a sticker chart, and gave her 2 smarties for #1, and 4 for #2. It worked well.

    Good luck! Smiley smile

I HATE POTTY TRAINING! My son is 3 and it's so hard for us. He tells me after makes #2. My son has a small speech delay so I've been told that may delay his ability to tell us. I am confident he'll get it! I just want to know when ? I wish I could hire someone to do it for me. And the daycare I wish they could be more helpful.

I haven't potty trained a kid yet, hopefully mine won't be too bad.

A friend of mine is trying to potty train her 2 year old son. Be careful with the Cheerios in the potty....they had to stop that cause her son tried eating them. Then last month she texted me saying that he had gotten really quiet so she went looking for him and found him sitting in the bathroom sink. She asked him what he was doing and he said, "Poop." Sure enough he was pooping in his diaper in the sink. They're using diapers still cause he's allergic to every brand of pull up they can find.

And I know this is gonna sound terrible but potty training sounds like housebreaking a dog.

But a funny story is wen he was training he got up in the middle of night and took the pamper off and "fingerpainted" his wall... Well NOT a funny story but memorable!! I will be cool and continue to do the normal tricks and hopefully she will get it... SOON

b/c with Gas and pampers and this wedding something has got to give and pampers seems to be the only thing lol

There's a book out there that my friend used. It starts with a quiz and tells you how to train per personality. She found that one son does things to get approval. So he would learn it best with the knowledge that Mommy and Daddy approve of it and it makes Mommy and Daddy happy. Her other son-does it because he wants to. The fact he's nearing an age that is way too big for diapers is irrelevant. I can ask what the book was called.

Well my daughter will be 2 on May 15, and we are still working on this potty training. She tells me sometimes but not always. Maybe I should see if putting panties on her will work. I am tired of buying diapers too.

I am potty training my daughter too. I started when she was around two, but she was never interested. She used to act a little embarrassed about it. She just recently turned 3 and all of a sudden out of no where she started wanting to use the potty. We bought her some Little Mermaid and Tinkerbelle underwear and have been putting them on her during the day. I think the underwear is what kinda got her interested in in using the tiolet. She now tells me when she has to go and has one or two accidents a day. I'm still working on getting her to use the tiolet when we are out, but other than that she is doing pretty good. I think it all depends on the child. When she's ready you'll know it. Just try talking about it alot and maybe getting some potty training movies. Try and keep it on her mind, but not forceful at all. She'll go when she's ready =)

Another idea is those rubber/plastic pants that go over regular panties/underwear. It makes it uncomfortable for them after they "go" so after a few accidents, they are more likely to want to go on the potty. This would only be a good option for a child that has the physical ability (bladder/bowel control) to be potty trained.
