BR: Scare with the baby

The New Mrs Seedes, on March 19, 2012 at 7:06 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 26

I know many of you are mothers and I would love your opinions.

Today DH and I had our anatomy scan. We aren't finding out so to us it was just another ultrasound. The tech took all the measurements needed (I didn't realize that they measured EVERYTHING). The ultrasound goes on for about 50 minutes and then the tech says "ok let me just see what consult room is open". My heart dropped to the floor. I looked at my DH and said they don't take you into consult rooms to tell you good news. He is trying to reassure me as we walk down the hall. We walk into the room and I see a box of tissues on the table. I look at DH and say "and those aren't tissues for tears of joy." Twenty LONG minutes later a dr I have never met comes in and sits down. She introduces herself as the high risk doctor.

She goes on to say the baby measures great BUT...(I knew there would be a but) there is a choriod plexus cyst on the baby's brain. She tells me to listen to EVERYTHING she has to say before panicking. Too late...you said cyst and brain. The waterfall started. She goes on to tell us that because of the baby measured fine that it means nothing. IF the baby's measurements were off then it could be an indicator of Trisomy 18. She and my DH had to tell me repeatedly that the baby was ok. I understood it mentally but couldn't stop crying.

Has anyone else been told the baby has a CPC? I go for a follow up ultrasound in 8 weeks.

I then go into my OB appt right after being told all this. My bp was high and they wanted to send me to the hospital. After I explained what had just happened they decided I didn't have to.

I go to my next appt of the day which is my dermatologist. I have had a nagging rash since November. I've been to 3 derms and not a darn one knew what it was.

Today they tell me they think it is Mersa. I am now on a topical cream, antibiotic and prednisone. Boy this day sucked all around. Thankfully my husband just rubbed my back and kept saying "did you hear her...she said the baby will be fine."

I went shopping this afternoon to make myself feel better using retail therapy. Damn it...not one thing I saw that I wanted to buy.

Kali, I was trying so hard to listen to everything the doctor was saying but I just broke down. I finally calmed down and told her that I cried last week over not having enough sour cream to cook dinner. I told her I was fine. Now, I just have to worry for 8 more weeks.

    Thanks!

I think my favorite thing I've cried over is when it began with me laughing hysterically which turned into crying because I had to pee so bad.

Same here when i was pregnant i would cry alot!! and now our son is almost two and i still cry alot over stupid things... hormones will never be the same. Dont worry your baby is growing and fine, alot of babies get cyst and i heard they just pop and go away on their own, dont get too worried because the next thing if it already occured is your bp, i got sent to the triage hospital like 3-4 times because of my pressure, the baby feels everything you do so try to not worry and calm down for you and the babys health. btw congrats on the baby!!

Sorry that you have MRSA. It's tough and you must be careful. As for your baby, im so sorry, its so scary once you know you're going to be a mom, thats it for good hon. No day will pass where something doesnt make you worry, cry, fear.... FOREVER. lol They HAVE to tell you all the posibilities cause if they don't and something comes up you'd be able to yell at them, ya know... so they give you ALL the details, i know its hard, but when they say the baby will be FINE, just listen to them. Say your prayers (if you do that) and take care of yourself. Stress can't be good for the MRSA. as for tears.. like i said FOREVER. One of my twins had surgery at 2 weeks, then my youngest was in the NICU for 2 weeks and had a small heart murmur, that DID go away, but hearing something...ANYTHING... could be wrong with that little person that YOU grew and YOU love more than life itself is scary. Hey i cried when they wheeled my now 9 1/2 yr old (oldest twin) back to have surgery on his foot, cont.

I would definitely ask for a second opinion by a perinatologist. For myself, I will always be a high risk pregnancy. I know it can have your nerves in knot and having all the uncontrollable emotions doesn't help anything. Hang in there. I will definitely keep your family and your little one in my prayers.

I wiki'd the cpc, here is what I found...

"It is believed that many adults have one or more tiny CPCs. CPCs have no impact on an individual's health or development or learning. The fetal brain may create these cysts as a normal part of development. They are temporary and usually are gone by the 32nd week of pregnancy."

Between that and what the dr told you, I think you should just have some ice cream and relax. Everything will be okay. <3 /hugs

When I say I feel your pain, I really do. I remember that day like it was yesterday. When we were called into the consult room, I think I said the same thing to my DH. We found out that our daughter had a bilateral choroid plexus cyst on her brain - so it was on both sides of the brain. I was nervous and scared. I googled everything about 294859 times - bad idea...don't do it!! I remember reading all of the "what-ifs" related to it and my mind went 30 miles a minute.

We went back for a follow-up a few weeks later and the cyst had spontaneously disappeared. The doctor (in his last year before retiring) said that he has seen CPC's MAAAAAAANY times before, but he never saw it stay and amount to anything. Now, almost 2 years later, my daughter is healthy, happy and you would never know that there was ever a CPC there.

Try not to worry, hun - I know easier said than done..but honestly, I have a feeling that your baby is healthy! Smiley smile

Now on to happier news...do you know what you're having?

When I was pregnant, I was grading papers and wrote the wrong date in my gradebook. I cried for ten minutes about that, and another twenty because I was so mad that I was crying over something so ridiculous. Crying because of scary news about your baby is perfectly normal and acceptable.
