Breaking up with my Mua?

mrswinteriscoming, on October 18, 2020 at 11:42 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 5

I did my trial for my wedding make up with a local MUA who a lot of girls I know use. I timed my trial for the day of a big event I was attending, and at the time I felt very ‘off’ – I had gotten a fake tan (trial for the wedding), I had contacts in instead of my usual glasses, and with the makeup as well I looked very different to my usual self. I didn’t love the makeup though, it felt very heavy and the eyebrows were pretty full on. A lot of people have told me that it’s normal for it to look more dramatic than it actually is (when looking at yourself in the mirror, given I’m not usually so dolled up) and that for photos it’ll all look muted down anyway.

I haven’t yet looked into other MUAs because I don’t want to spend the money on a trial until I have another fancy event to attend (wedding is Dec 2021 so we have time) but I don’t know – do I go with the one I found or look elsewhere? I liked the makeup but I didn’t love it as much as I’m hoping.

If I choose someone else, how do I tell her? She never asked me to pay a deposit but she otherwise knows she is booked for our wedding.

You could ask her to do it very minimal next time. I'm not into the dramatic. Makeup look either. I prefer the more natrual look. Breaking up with my Mua? 1

Since you have over a year until the wedding, you can tell the MUA the changes you want to see. Then create your own special event (ie. for your birthday or FH birthday or celebrate the day you got engaged, etc) and get your makeup done.

If she has a good reputation and you know a lot of people that used her I would give her another chance since you have time. I would call her up and tell her exactly how you feel. Trust me, I’m sure she wants you to be happy with what she does. It doesn’t hurt to see what she says.

I agree that you should give her another go. Even "natural" makeup for photography requires a lot of work so part of it could just be getting used to the feel of that type of makeup. It also does get really muted in pictures. I.e. for my engagement photos they added more blush than I usually use, but it barely showed up in pics.

I think asking to mute some of the things you disliked would be helpful and might get the look you want to achieve!

I had the same problem with my trial, I hated my look. I just had my second trial with someone else and she nailed it. You have plenty of time to do a few trials before your wedding. Do not settle. If you are unhappy, try someone else. It can get expensive but you deserve to look your best on your day.

Maybe you could talk the MUA about what you didnt like and change it? If you arent confident that they can do what you want then try someone else. Unfortunately not everyone can do makeup.
    Good Luck
