Okay y'all, I don't know how many of you have been to a Utah wedding reception, so I'll quickly explain. In Utah, people come to a reception literally for half an hour or less. They come, say hi, eat your food, and leave. There is rarely any dancing, socializing, or serving of a dinner. Besides...

Besides family, no one really plans to stay most of the night, people don't consider it to be a party/social gathering (probably because there's not alcohol eh?). Soooo, any idea how to mitigate that (besides alcohol)? Ways to keep guests entertained and staying longer? Activities? Heeellpp

I've been so worried about the temple, especially because KC is closed for cleaning right now and won't open until next Tuesday! But I talked to the matron a few weeks back and she was super understanding and helpful (she even assured me my dress would work, and they have a bolero for me to wear during the ceremony so to not go and buy a sweater haha).

I'm glad to see more LDS brides on here. It's hard to make everything fit that's here, but I try to take all the advice with a grain of salt and make it work with the whole LDS wedding idea. I'm soooo ready, as is FH. I just want the time to fly by faster than it is, unfortunately. Chomping at the bit to just be settled down!

I live in Utah, but am not Mormon. Here are my recommendations based on the LDS receptions I've been to versus other weddings:

    1) Limit your guest list! Do you really need to invite your entire ward and your second and third cousins? The reason people only stay for 30 minutes is because they are invited to 1-3 weddings any given week during the summer.

    2) Have a sit down dinner. Serve your guests something more than punch and cake.

    3) Extend the invite a guest plus one. The majority of young LDS members are actively dating and will want to bring a date.

    4) Send out a schedule of events with the invite. 5pm- ring ceremony, 6pm- dinner, 7pm- toasts, 7:15pm cake cutting and socializing.
