Bridal Box?

Mari, on October 18, 2021 at 10:39 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 6

Hey ladies!

So, while putting together my proposal boxes for my bridesmaids and MOH, I have come across SO MANY cute things for brides!!

I never thought I would want anything that said "bride" or "future Mrs. X" on it, but now here I am desperately wishing for all of those obnoxious displays of our engagement... I've seen several bridal boxes that you can subscribe to monthly, but I honestly can't justify spending on myself when we are planning and paying for our wedding... We of course have help from our families, but we are trying to do the bulk of it ourselves.

Advice? Do I splurge? Do I stop being a brat and realize I will never use these things again after this year and forget it? Help!

You could subscribe to one for like 1-3 months, and see what you think! If you love it, you can always extend your subscription. If you don't love it, then it's only a couple boxes. I received a few boxes at the beginning of our engagement, and while they were definitely fun to receive, the novelty wore off after a little bit. I also found that I didn't use many of the items (but did use some). If it's in your budget and you want to treat yourself, I say go for it! You only get to be a fiancee for a short period of time, enjoy it! Another option is choosing a few "bride" or "Mrs" items on Etsy or Amazon that you know you like and/or know you'll use. That way, you aren't committing to a subscription, and you'll be getting items you love!

I would say splurge elsewhere. After your wedding, you won’t care about or want most of those items. If there’s one thing that really sticks out, just buy a single item. You can also register for items that have your name/initials on it like cutting boards or decor.

I subscribed to the ms. to mrs box on a whim. I was extremely burnt out from wedding planning (FH isn't much help which I'm OK with) but after a day of buying gifts for bridal party and parents and what not I wanted just something for me that I could look forward to every month.

I've only gotten one box so far, but it really did brighten my day, it came with some practical items and some items I wont use after the wedding. My favorite was a wedding coutndown flip board, and now every morning I change the countdown and me, FH and our dog jump around shouting the number. Its not something I ever would have bought myself but it brings us so much joy.

Personally, I look at subscription boxes as a way to lose money for the most part, taking advantage of a time in your life when you don't have enough time to think about all the things you didn't initially curate for yourself. You can buy these things separately, but if you don't have someone who can be your cheerleader, advocate, et cetera like a really good friend or multiple friends to remind you to be happy about your engagement - you can do it for a month & see how you feel about it! I love what a previous poster said, which is that their fave item is the countdown board. Honestly? I'd absolutely love that.

However, how your journey to your wedding goes is all dependent on you. If it's not in your budget, and you have other financial commitments, I wouldn't worry about it. There are other ways to treat yourself - like a monthly spa treatments or bonding events with your bridesmaids that doesn't have to stop at the traditional bachelorette party, etc! Don't feel like just because other people got this or that to celebrate their engagement and bride-ness means you're not doing enough.

Thank all of you guys for your insight and advice! All of my bridesmaids are spread out over states, so I haven't gotten to celebrate with everyone the way I'd like to, and I'm still so over the moon about getting married. I LOVE the idea of a countdown calendar. I think I'll probably snag some things for myself that I can't live without, and leave the subscription bridal box option out. Happy medium. Thank you all again!
