Bridal Getting Ready: Foods and Drinks

Jennifer, on July 13, 2022 at 8:16 PM Posted in Planning 4 16
What’s a good estimate for foods and drinks when getting ready. There will be 10 people total (7 wedding party + 3 makeup/hair artists). I’m thinking of just getting like finger sandwiches and silver dollar rolls. Maybe some cookies and definitely mimosas. How much do you think I need?

For my own wedding where we had 10 people getting ready (incl vendors) plus a few more in and out throughout the day, I arranged catering and this was my exact order – 16 mini savoury filled croissants, 14 breakfast sliders, 16 mini quiches, sandwich platter (28 sandwiches in total), 16 mini sweet filled croissants and a mini pastry platter (28 pastries in total).

I knew we would have a big gap between leaving the house and eating a proper meal so I ordered lots of food (we had leftovers for the next day) that was small so that people could easily pick and eat as we all got ready.

Thank you for listing the amounts! How many hours were you all getting ready for and how much leftover did you have?

We had a staggered start to avoid anyone waiting around prior to having their hair or makeup done so we had the bridal party arrive between 7:30am and 9:30am and left at 2pm.

I can’t remember just how much we had leftover but it was at my parents’ place and I think between my parents and my sister it was enough for them to have as breakfast the next day or two? They were pretty happy with that though!

Our getting ready timeline starts at 10 AM and Ends at 4 when we head to the venue, there will be 10 of us at the getting ready spot of our hotel (one being my photographer).

My hotel is right next to a pizzeria so I'm planning on ordering probably 3 large Pizza's (whatever's left over will stay in our hotel room and hubby and i can eat cold pizza after the wedding if we so desire lol)

All my bridesmaids are planning on spending the night with me before the wedding at the hotel, so I'll probably end up asking someone to go pick up a starbucks or dunkin order in the morning when we all wake up!

Oh good idea on the coffee! I can’t believe I almost forgot about it lol. I’ll delegate it to someone. I do like the idea of a mimosa bar so we will probably do that, too. Ours is from 11-4. The hotel is amazing pizza and I thought of just getting those, but they all wanted to do something more “dainty” like finger foods 🙄

I'm so afraid I wont eat at the wedding (but I am determined to, we didn't spend all this money on food to not enjoy it) and then just constantly have a drink in my hand I know I need food in me, so dainty finger food isn't gonna hold off the alcohol lol. Thankfully all my girls can EAT, I even sent out a survey and asked what they wanted for getting ready between, sandwiches, pastry or pizza and pizza won lol

We had everyone on their own for breakfast, since we were meeting at the salon for hair. Then once we got to the venue for make-up, etc., we had trays from the grocery store (an antipasti tray, some extra cheese chunks, fruit, cookies, that kind of thing) and then we also had assorted beverages (wine (I'm allergic to champagne - weird, I know), sodas, water, the guys had bourbon). I have a tendency toward a nervous stomach, so we wanted to do stuff that could be "picked at" - it's easier for me than having a whole sandwich or whatever (again, weird, I know). We found there was plenty though. We did identical sets of trays for the ladies (me, 3 BMs, 2 moms, make-up, photographer, and coordinator - though our vendors declined to eat - which you may discover as well) and the guys (H, 3 GM, 1 jr GM, and 1 dad) and there was plenty of food.

That’s an interesting idea. So you just made identical food trays of things for everyone. How long did it take for you to put them together?

I ordered large trays from the grocery store that everyone just chose off of. Then I just had to pick them up and bring them to the venue (we could store things there from the night before).

Ahhh I see! That is probably more economical than getting it from the hotel (at like $2 a tiny sandwich LOL). Since I’m planning on going out for a grocery run that morning for mimosa bar provisions, getting trays of finger foods isn’t such a big deal.

We are going to do bagels, rolls, and spreads, along with fruit and cheese platters, yogurt, oatmeal, and breakfast pastries. Coffee, tea, and juices will also be served. I d love to do pizza but I don't want pizza grease or greasy hands anywhere near my dress or the bridesmaid dresses until after the ceremony Smiley xd . The guys are probably go to do breakfast sandwiches or like a 3ft hero. There will also be easy to grab snacks like granola bars that can be thrown in a purse and taken on the go.

Dammit. So, since we are having it in the Bridal Suite, apparently we HAVE to get it catered by the hotel so I guess there goes any other options.

Definitely more economical lol. I ordered a week or two ahead (from Publix, but I think most grocery stores have some kind of party trays/platters you can order ahead), so they were ready for pickup when I needed/wanted them. Plus, it was super easy - and when you're right on top of the wedding, easy is the way to go!
