Bridal makeup

Adwoa, on October 28, 2019 at 10:18 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 20
For those of you that invested in getting professional makeup for your wedding, how much did you spend on bridal makeup? I found someone on Instagram and I love her style, she has a pretty comprehensive package (a trial, an extra makeup session that can be used for engagement shoot or bridal shower or rehearsal dinner, then day of make up) but I’m worried it’s too much. How much did people spend for their makeup? As a point of reference I’m in the DC area as I know prices differ per the area.

I guess ultimately it would depend. How much is the package as a whole? If I go with the MUA that I've picked (my trial is next month) is $120 for the hair and makeup trial and $120 for the day of.

The package as a whole is $480 so it shakes out to be able $160 for each makeup session. And there’s no option to do 2 of the 3 services (like if I wanted just trial and wedding day) you either take the package as is or nothing

I’m in Maryland and paying $125 for day of makeup which includes lashes. I did not do a trial because the MUA has done my makeup in the past, but the trial would be the same amount.

That seems a little high, tbh. Of course it depends on the area. I'm in Chicago. $160 seems fine to me for each of the makeup sessions but I personally wouldn't want them done for the rehearsal dinner or engagement session. Maybe for the engagement session.

I feel $480 is king of a lot, but I am biased.

My MoH offered to do my make-up for free as she was talented in that area and everyone thought it looked great. I was happy. We did a few trials beforehand to make sure I'd like my day of look, too. So, I know trials are definitely important and if you're going to get professional make-up, you'll pay extra for that.

I will say, I was at a wedding last year as a BM and I had 2 options for make-up -- $60 and $100 (non-airbrush & airbrush) and I'm STL area. So, maybe it's not too outrageous, but I just couldn't fathom spending that much on make-up in the first place, unfortunately, as I don't wear it too often -- and I had gone with the cheaper option and it turned out looking nice, too.

Look at it this way -- do you need all 3 days? Can you talk to the make-up artist? Sometimes people will make deals outside of packages they already have if you're like: "I need 2 of these 3 sessions, is there any way to cut one off". You don't know unless you try and ask -- express your interest and go from there.

Plus, you shouldn't forget what you're going to tip -- in the end. So, it'll be over $480, when you're done with everything.

$125 for wedding day. If I did a trial it would’ve been $90 for that.

I decided to do my own but I’m in the NYC suburb area and it was $85+tip for my bridesmaids/family. It would’ve been $100+tip for myself, as the bride is typically more expensive.

So I initially inquired about getting makeup for an engagement session (I was honestly going to use that as my trial) but then was told about this package

I’m in LA, so it’s also very expensive. My HAMU is $360 for day of. I also had a trial that was an additional $100. But for all my bridesmaids hair and makeup is only $100.

I got a great deal on a hair/makeup/nail package because the salon is in a small town in Alabama (but they do great work)! I'm paying $276 for a hair & makeup trial, hair & makeup day of, shellac manicure, and regular pedicure!

    That's a tricky situation, I suppose.

You let them know that you are interested, but maybe not that you were going to use your trial for something more that they might have already had a package with?

The best thing I can think of is to thank them for letting you know about the package, but you might be more "...interested in just a trial/day of, how much might you price that out to be? I enjoy your style but I was only looking for 2 sessions." Type conversation.

Grateful that she has let you know about such a deal, but maybe seeing if she's willing to work with you personally -- if not and you still like her and $480 is in your budget - Heck, it is your wedding, go for it. I'd just highly suggest using at least 2 of those make-up sessions with some sort of event/photography (engagement/bridal shower/rehearsal, like the package suggests) and getting the most bang for your buck, imo.

Wedding sometimes boils down to us being like: "What price is this", "Is this in my budget", "What have others paid..." -- but you also have to realize that all of us have different tastes, ideas of what looks good, budgets, etc. That's why it's sometimes so hard to hear that someone might have gotten a better deal, but it might not have ultimately been what you could have been happy with. So, splurge if need be. Smiley smile

My hair and makeup on my wedding day is going to be $200. I spent $115 on my trial. That's standard for this area of Texas.

For the preview of hair & makeup, the vendor I booked is charging $175. For day of, they are charging $225. My vendor does come with a lot of premium options that are included, AND they travel to you. The cost for my bridesmaids is $160 for both hair and makeup. I am from Ohio. Hope this helps!

$145 for trial (hair and makeup). $180 for day of hair and makeup (this includes lashes and putting in my hair extensions). Plus a $90 travel fee. This does not include tip for either the trial or the day of.

I'm in Denver. My bridal makeup was $140 and the trial was $80. I spent another $260 on extensions.

My makeup artist offers pretty much the exact same package. I had her do my makeup yesterday for my engagement pictures, we will schedule a trial, and she will travel to me day of. I am paying $200 for all the services. She's a little more on the pricier side for where I'm at, as each of the BM will be charged $75. But she was a friend in high school and I wanted to support her business.

Great advice, thank you for not saying that’s too high or too low. I think you were open minded and understood makeup is a personal thing.

As someone who does makeup professionally, I can tell you that we all price our services differently. Why you ask? Makeup is an art form, not everyone will understand it’s value or purpose. It is up to the artist and art appreciative person to come to an understanding to allow the art to flourish.

As makeup artist when we price our services we take into consideration:

the number of clients we will be working on

    how much our insurance is

how much it cost to upkeep our website

for those of us who do not have a travel fee believe it or not it’s calculated at a much lesser value than someone who out right says x amount for x miles

some makeup artist may calculate into the price how much it cost for them to advertise online

if the makeup artist uses low-end or high-end products as well as how often one needs to restock

    airbrush makeup and equipment

the value their past makeup education comes into play

some makeup artist price their services at a price that will allow them to be selective in who they may choose to service

what personal touches are placed into the service that someone else may not have

    administrative tools

honestly there are many other variables

Here’s what every consumer needs to remember do your homework. It’s easy to ask questions to understand what you’re getting into, ask until the cows come home. You do not have to agree right away to anything you feel unsure about. You can always explain to the artist that they are the one that you want to work with and unfortunately their price is out of your range because of blank. Yes sometimes effective communication can create open dialogue to cause change.

Believe it or not if the artist is not willing to budge and you cannot meet them at their level nor can a midway point be made by effective communication; I would tell you, you’re probably not a fit for each other. And that’s ok. There is someone out there for you but you need to find each other.

My hair is $100 and Bridesmaids hair is $80..I'm not sure about the trial as my hair dresser has been doing my hair since I was 15...she did my homecoming hair, prom hair etc in HS. We have a a long history together.

Make-up is $100 as well and $60 for trial. $80 for bridesmaids makeup.

so we are looking at $260 total. They will both travel to me the day of and I am in Maryland.

Northern VA/DC area is expensive depending on who you go with. I am going with a very highly professional hair and makeup company but because I am hairstylist for them. I believe its 200$ for bridal hair and makeup for the day of only. As long as you have researched many options, do what makes you the most comfortable and if you can afford it.
