Bridal Party Hair and Makeup Questions

Amy, on December 13, 2019 at 11:17 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 6
Hello everyone! I was recently asked how I was going to handle my own and my bridesmaids’ hair and makeup, and I quickly realized I have no idea how to go about this. The wedding isn’t until September 2020 so I have some time.

I unfortunately can not pay for everyone’s (I have 10 bridesmaids) hair and makeup (the wedding is already on a low budget). So how would I do this? Do I call a salon and ask them if we can all come in? Or do I ask a couple of girls to travel to do it? I’m totally clueless; any and all help is appreciated!

If you can't afford to cover bridal party hair and makeup, that's totally fine as long as you are okay with them doing it themselves instead of paying a professional. I hired my hair stylist and gave my bridesmaids the option to pay for her do their hair also, otherwise I was totally fine if they wanted to do their own.

Just let them know that you're booking someone for your hair and makeup, let them know the pricing, and offer the services to them if they want to pay for them. Otherwise, just leave them to do their own! Smiley smile

I recommend booking hair and makeup ASAP - they fill up very quickly. My wedding is Oct. 2020 and I contacted artists in June of this year. The day after I booked one, someone else contacted her about my same wedding date. Good luck!

It depends on if you are okay with making it optional for them to do their own hair and makeup. If you require it then you should pay for it. I wanted a hair and makeup artist what would travel to my venue. I reached out to several and got quotes. Then I talked to my bridesmaids about it. I gave them the pricing that I found and asked them what if any services they wanted. Only one of them choose to do her own hair and makeup. The rest all choose to have their hair professionally done and a couple choose to have both professionally done. It was 100% their decision.

I would be booking this ASAP. our wedding is August 2020 and when I went searching for my favourite artists in July of 2019 almost everyone was booked. I had to settle for like my 4th choice..
I am not paying for my bridesmaids either.
I reached out to them and said "I am looking to book hair/makeup for the wedding. Based on quotes I am seeing, the price for hair would be __ each and makeup would be __ each. Let me know if you are interested in both, one, or neither- I just have to give the artists numbers ahead of time. No pressure if you'd prefer to do your own!"

I have a BM who has graciously offered to do everyone's hair and make up for them (if they wish to have it done)! She's teaching me how to do my make up so that I can at least get the process started while she helps the other girls so we aren't scrambling around trying to get my make up done last minute haha.

In the end, I would ask your BMs what they prefer! If they're 100% fine with paying for their own hair & make up, you can definitely schedule a salon appointment and have each of them pay on their own!

I booked my hair&makeup artist 1 year in advance, and she said that my date was already almost full. I would recommend booking asap! I can't pay for everyone's hair and makeup either, so I am simply telling them that they are welcome to pay to have it professionally done, or they can do it themselves. My bridesmaids were totally understanding - hopefully yours are too!

    Good luck!
