Why would you do that? You're there in person, why would guests need to see a framed photo of you in your dress?

I saw it for the first time at a wedding a couple of weeks ago and I thought it was weird AF. There was a large framed portrait of the bride near the cake. Like.. WHY? The bride was there.. I could look at her. Why have a framed photo?

That is an old southern tradition. Typically, they are no smaller than 16x20. I'm not even doing bridals, but some people do and display them at the reception. My venue even states in the wedding package that they will provide an easel for display of the bridal portrait.

It's a thing done traditionally in the South that is slowly going out of fashion. I wouldn't display them Krystal. I didn't display mine, and it was just fine.

eta: but that being said, don't let others' opinions stop you if thats what you want. I think its going out of fashion as people share more and more on Facebook, etc

I'm in Georgia/Tennessee and it's a thing. Idk man. My mom and aunt both had their portraits done at an art museum and they were displayed at the wedding. They're hanging at my grandparents house.

It is a thing in many Southern States. If your family has done it, and you feels comfortable with it- do it! Forget the nay-sayers, it's your wedding!!! Those who love you will love it!

I'm from Texas and my wedding is in Texas. Displaying a bridal portrait, especially big ones, remind me of when a giant picture of the deceased is put up next to the casket. Bridal portraits seem super odd because you wouldn't be a bride without the groom, so why isn't he in the picture?

It's very common in Louisiana as well. I'm assuming if you spent the time and money for bridal portraits you might want to make use of it.
