S2B Mrs.Ansah, on July 11, 2013 at 12:03 PM Posted in Planning 0 21

Ok Brides! Somebody please tell me the point behind bridal portraits!! I mean u have your engagement photos, you have your wedding photo ( which your dress will be on) what the point in spending more money on solo photo so u can hang around the venue??? Should u just hang the engagement photos?? Ijs...it just render pointless n a waste of money to me! Anyone agree or sadly disagree lol???

If you don't want the don't get them. They aren't common where I am from either, but I'm not going to tell someone else who wants them how to spend their own money. You can really say anything is a waste of money if it's not what you want.

They are common in other areas though, so maybe one of those brides can explain better why they like them.

I agree with you. I think it is a complete waste of money. I have a very tight budget. So, I was not planning on doing them but I have a friend who is trying to start up a photography business and asked me if she could do my bridal photos. She is doing them for free or I would not have them.

Well to be honest I have been planning to do them. They are like a special moment just for the bride to get the most beautiful shots of her. It could always show a bride how gorgeous she is so that way the day of the wedding she knows she looks amazing. Also on the wedding day instead of wasting time on taking just pictures of the bride and then finally getting to everyone else you could simply start of right with the bridal party, because you already took all of your pictures.

I'm in the south and they are very common here. Most of the brides have them taken so they can be displayed at the entrance of the reception or near the guest book.

I personally didn't have them done for my wedding but I can understand why some people would want them for themselves.

I'm a southern bride and basically EVERY photog pkg has this included in the price. I took them and loved them.

My reasoning behind it was to display some of these photos in our house really big. I also didn't do the traditional shoot. i had mariachis and a white horse for mine. I wanted something very ethnic to show my heritage and its better than some boring pic of me by myself. I agree that it cuts down time on the day of.

P.S. I think engagement shoots and boudoir shoots are not necessary, but to each their own. Businesses just want to make their money, bottom line Smiley smile

I'm from Texas and bridal portraits are very common. The engagement and bridal pictures are displayed at the wedding reception close to the entrance. They are beautiful and the sessions are fun.

We will display our engagement and my bridal picture in our home after the wedding.

Maybe it is a southern thing. lol Every Photographer I have looked at offers them. If you take photos now of you in the dress, it will save time on the big day. You can have the photo to show everyone at the wedding. It ensure that you will have all the photos of you that you want. It doesn't cost you that much more than the fee. You have your dress, your going to do a test run of your hair, and make up trail, do it that day.

I had the opportunity to take bridal portraits and just didnt do them. I really didnt feel like the hassle because this shoot would have been on a different day etc.

I would have to disagree on the boudior shoot. I gave my husband a "Little Black Book" for our one year anniversary "Paper Anniversary" and he said it was the BEST GIFT he ever received. To see me.... his wife all sexy and looking like a model was priceless for him. Honestly, I think I like the pics more than him, but a boudior shoot was a win/win. I felt amazing, beautiful glamorous and my husband thinks im the most awesome wife.

Yeah I don't see the point of bridal or boudoir shoots either, but I have nothing against people who get them done.

    My reasoning?

I don't need my future kids to find an album with half naked pics of younger me in the future. Plus, I did win a boudoir shoot, FH said it was a stupid idea. So I gave it away. I guess he gets to see me every night in person Smiley winking

I don't want to ruin my dress before the day of, and don't need a bunch of pics of myself, it seems a little conceited to me. I'll get plenty on our wedding day Smiley smile I'd rather have more with BOTH me and FH than just me anyway. It's OUR day, not just mine.

I knew that the huge engagement picture of the couple existed, but, I didn't know that brides actually blow pictures of themselves up, and sit them out at the reception.

I've seen quite a few of them, but they're usually a part of big budget weddings around here.

They're quite a focal point when they're beautifully framed and hung on the wall.

Bridal portraits can serve a multitude of purposes. It is definitely a southern thing to hang a bridal portrait at the wedding, but just for practical reasons, I think bridal portraits are a MUST.

You get to do a trial run with your hair and make up - and actually see how it looks in photographs. You may love the way it looks when you look in the mirror, but not how it translates into photos, and taking bridal portraits gives you the chance to see that.

You also get to spend some time in your dress to make sure everything fits, nothing moves, check for problem areas, figure out how underwear/bra will look (again in photographs - because there may be things you can't see just looking in the mirror).
