Bridal Shoes for "Bad" Feet

Mrs J, on October 7, 2017 at 10:30 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 2 21

Hey all! So, I've been pondering my footwear for awhile now (mainly because I've developed awful plantar fasciitis), and don't know what to do. I want to wear flats, so at least that's in my favor for comfort, but otherwise I have no clue what to do. I wear nice, supportive tennis shoes on a daily basis for work, and even those aren't comfortable on my feet anymore. I just can't stand the thought if my feet being in such agony on my wedding day when I want to dance and enjoy my time. Any other brides out there with similar footwear woes? Any recommendations for decent looking shoes? I've heard decent things about Tieks, but worry there is no way that they can be supportive enough since they're ballet flats, especially for the cost...

I have terrible planter fasciitis also and my podiatrist told me that heels or wedges are actually good for our condition (obviously not super high though). I plan on getting a 1-2" heel for the ceremony and first dance and then switching to a memory foam sandal during dancing. I haven't quite found what I want because I'm picky and trying to not spend over $100.

No advice for wedding shoes (I'm wearing chucks) but for everyday use, FH turned me on to New Balance 990's....Expensive ($150) but worth it.

I have to wear custom shoes due to foot problems, too. I think I'm going to get the Kate Spade bridal Keds and put my custom inserts in--if that doesn't work, I'm not quite sure what specific brands to try, but my doctor says Dansko and Clarks are the best!

I'm wearing the Kate spade glitter keds, I had ankle surgery last summer and it's been doing really decent, but these last couple days my ankle has been awful! I couldn't walk in heels before the surgery so at least I don't have a closet full of heels not getting worn!

Here's my thoughts as I also suffer plantar fasciitis: if your feet will hurt no matter what, the shoes might as well be something fabulous!

In addition to having flat feet(and I do mean 0 arch at all.. I have platypus feet) , I broke my right foot in a car accident and it will NEVER heal properly and will always hurt no matter what I wear.

Ergo, I've decided that if that is the case, I may as well have some amazing shoes - and I do! You can always wear nice shoes for ceremony/photos/first dance and then wear super comfy shoes or even house slippers for reception - you'll be sitting to eat and unless you are wearing a short dress, no-one will see the shoes for "regular" fun dancing anyway Smiley smile

As a PP said, you need a little heel for the plantar fasciitis. Tieks are not that comfortable despite what they say. I love mine but no support at all. Are you being treated by a podiatrist? I find that the ultrasound and whirlpool treatments help. Also, since beginning an exercise routine, things are better. You have a number of months for treatment, then look for shoes.

I'm in agreement with D&G114, you have a long time before your wedding to try and treat the plantar fasciitis, that should be your top priority. If you're not already I definitely recommend seeing not only a podiatrist but a physical therapist who can give you good exercises and stretches to heal and prevent recurrences. Then be very diligent about those stretches.

Aside from that custom orthotics are a lifesaver and can fix imbalances that may be causing your plantar fasciitis, they would also open up a whole range of flats for the wedding as well. They can be pricy but worth every penny.

YES OMG. I oversuppinate so the brunt of the shock in my shoes goes toward the outside of my feet. I bought a pair of lunarglides by Nike and they've been wildly comfortable. I also bought a pink pair of Saucony ones that stabilize my ankles, so they don't roll outward when I walk. I bought the two pairs for like $300. One is for leisure and one is for work. They were expensive and the lunar glides are the best shoe I've tried for plantar's pain, they have a high arch. I have similar problems and pain in my feet all the time, last week I thought I'd have to seriously get another job because I JUST COULDN'T TAKE THE PAIN ANYMORE. Luckily I did some research and found some solutions Smiley laugh

I have planters too. It's awful. To be honest I found that wedges help take pain away from my heel. I also have prescription meds that help. I'm wearing my wedges for the ceremony and then changing in to some platform flip flops. My dress is going to cover them anyways

Same issue. There is a sleeve you can wear that helps. Wear them every night at bed time leading up to the wedding, it will help strengthen the tendon and you'll start to feel relief.

Plantar Fasciitis Compression sleeves - Better than Night Splint Socks, Shoe, Insoles, Inserts & Orthotics for Foot, Ankle Pain Relief for men, women, nurses, maternity, pregnancy, running & heel spur https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01091ZI0Q/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_8sE2zbN03P2ZY

They can be worn with shoes. I also found cute 3 inch heels. I'll change into flat sandals and second dress after cake cutting.

As a massage therapist, please please put a massage budget in with your wedding planning and go get you're calves massaged. Plantar Fasciitis is usually caused by the muscles of the calves being so tight that the tendon that attached under your heel is being pulled until it get inflamed and can eventually start to tear.

You have plenty of time until you're wedding. If you start getting massages and stretching your calves in between, there's a strong possibility you can get rid of it completely before your wedding.

Maybe you could see your podiatrist and he could give you a foot injection? I might have to do the same before my wedding, my feet only hurt in the mornings and then I where my vionic sandals or shoes with my inserts

I'd consider some sort of orthopedic shoe. I'm sure google could help you with that.

Thanks for all of the help, y'all! I've made an appointment with a massage therapist for the beginning of November, @Nicolette. I am an occupational therapist, so I've been doing the stretches that my PT colleges recommended, but I might also start using some modalities (other than frozen water bottles). I also plan in making an appointment with a podiatrist for shoe inserts as I suspect that I over pronate...

This is really helpful information because I also have really bad planters also and have been going to podiatrist.

    OMGoodness.

    1st - date twin!

2nd - I started exercising more and discovered that I developed plantar fasciitis. Went to a podiatrist and started treatment (foot brace, arch supports, stretches, etc) and life has been much better. HOWEVER I started thinking about footwear for the wedding, and then worried because everything that looked cute, had no support. Thankfully the "search" feature helped me find this thread.

I think I might end up getting cute shoes and add my insert, or Vionic sandals. And definitely will be doing a massage before the wedding! Depending on the pain (it's been a LOT better since I started therapy) I might chat with my doctor about cortisone just to make sure. Hopefully won't have to do that.

Hi! I also have plantar fasciitis and over pronate and was wondering what shoes you ended up going with? I was thinking of heels/wedges for the ceremony and those glittery Keds for the reception. Thanks!! Smiley smile
