Bridal Show Scam??

Kelly, on January 10, 2012 at 4:54 PM Posted in Planning 1 20

So I went to a few bridal shows this weekend and got a phone call from one of the vendors saying I won a 3 day/2 night getaway trip and some housewear items. (it was a culinary type stand). I can't decide if it's a scam or not! I got super excited but I don't want to get my hopes up. I never win anything and always get scammed like this. They are only in town until Sunday and to claim the prize I have to meet them at a hotel in town and go over the details of everything.

Have any of you heard of scams at bridal shows? What do you girls think?!

A girl I work with also got a call and thought it was a scam because she thought it was so unreal to win anything (especially anything that big) but as it turns out it wasn't fake. Call them back and see what it's all about. You might just be surprised Smiley smile

Call them back and get more information, but DO NOT give them any credit card information until/if you are absolutely positive that you feel comfortable. In my experience, if after talking to them, you hesitate, it's probably because it's a scam!

I recommend inputting their phone number in google and doing a search on the number and seeing what other people have said. I got calls from vendors from the Bridal Shows claiming I "won" things, but turns out it was the general discount they provide to everybody.

    Edit to say:

But it's not always fake, one of my BM won a spa package for her and 3 friends from a Bridal Show she went to before her wedding.

I thought the same thing when I won a free E-Pic session at the only bridal show I have ever been to. But it turned out to be real. I'd investigate it further. BUT don't give anyone any money if they ask! This will let you know if it's a scam or not! And make sure it's not a Time Share thing. Those people are scheisters too!

You have to listen to them sell you the cookware and all that for like an hour and half. aftewards you do actually get the items they offer. I think its like 25 bucks or something for shipping. or $100 if you want an additional night with the vacation(you pay for you own flight).

Ohhh- I got that call about 5 months ago and called them back. They are VERY inflexible about their dates/times for their 'event' and it was on my work weekend so it ended there.

Was it table charm.... I had that call but it wasn’t really worth me taking time off work. I hear you just need to sit through there sales pitch and I think you have to pay the taxes

I was thinking the same as Catilin. Table Charm called me and I was super excited, I researched it a bit and it sounded kind of sketch, you have to sit through a thing where they tell you your cookware will give you cancer and that you should buy hundreds of dollars worth of their cookware, which apparently is the only one that won't give you cancer... ever if you don't buy, you still get the vacation, but it is very rigid and probably more trouble/expense than it's worth.

They told me and FH to meet them, and be there 15 minutes early, they were 15 minutes late so I got ticked (don't tell me to be early and then show up late yourself, that's just disrespectful) and left before they showed up.

I would totally call back, but of course don't give them any credit card information like Katie Bug said.

I went to one last year and they did try to sell us cookware. We didn't buy any but we did get two crystal champagne glasses (very nice if you haven't bought yours yet) and we got a 2 night stay at a nice hotel but we have to pay for our flight (Las Vegas is an option)

I went to the one in Timonium, Maryland and it was exactly like the first thing you said. i have to go with my FH to meet with them and i can choose from wedding bands or a 3 day/2 night stay, and get like 2 other things. it seems strange and dont want to spend the time and gas on it if it's a scam. but i don't want to give up a trip either, if it's not a scam!

i don't know what to do!

Call them back & re-search them online to see what comes up.. Hubby & I went to 1 of the supposedly not time share sit thru 90min video & walk away with a free cruise, well that free cruise is not free... after paying the tax & port fees & them bugging the hell out of you to sign up for the "time share" or whatever name they called it & then after that they actually called me few times & told them they are coming to my house to collect cash for the credit card i have with BOA.. (stupid me, 1st signed up for the CC thru BOA with them to get this "awesome" deal, but then changed my mind as soon as I got home) so anyway after few calls, my hubby called & told them if they call 1 more time he will gladly take a drive over to their office & that will be last time they call.. well they havent called since, & it been about 3 months now.. so research & just dont give them your personal info unless you know its good to go ...

SCAM. They called (cookware place) I went, sat through the entire spill, walked out with nothing. He was just selling his cookware. I was suppose to get a $50 gift card or a 2 night say in any city. BS! if they call, ask them if it is the Naked Kitchen scam.

Unless it was the door prize,it's a total scam. Refer to the "time share scam", it's basically the same. Cross reference whoever is offering these great gifts with the Better Business Bureau..it's almost always a scam that hooks LOTS of people. Also any of the people on these forums vouching for it's authenticity are working FOR the scammers. Beware!

I signed up for one this year, and about a month before the show they notified me that there is a pretty hefty fee for power as it’s not included with the booth.
