Bridal shower- alternative gifts for a couple living together

Ashley, on May 5, 2017 at 3:58 PM Posted in Planning 1 40

My FH and I already live together and have been for quite some time. I have not registered for an gifts because we pretty much have everything we want and need. What is another alternative for gifts that are appropriate for a bridal shower?

Do you need a better set of knives that cuts through meat like butter? Love my Chicago cutlery knives. What about nicer sheets? There must be something that you can use an upgraded version of.

Look at upgrades for your home. FH and I have been living together for four years and we also "have everything we need" but we went through and did a bunch of upgrading for our registry. New knives, matching dishes (ha) new pots and pans. There is a lot of things I bet when you start looking that could use some upgrading.

    UPGRADES.

Fluffy towels, badass knives, new pans, stemware, everyone has something they could upgrade.

I'm all about DIY and home improvement stuff - gardening supplies, tools, floor steamer etc. You could also consider grilling tools, serving dishes and platters, decor items like pretty vases or bowls, picture frames, welcome mats, artwork...

You don't necessarily need to register for household items. I am in the same boat. I registered for Sonos speakers, an aromatherapy mister, pillows, a rotisserie attachment for the BBQ, a cookbook, an outside doormat and a scale. Perhaps there's some sports equipment or computer stuff you need. We do need some upgrades, our towels are a mish mash of bad colors and are falling apart - LOL! I registered on Amazon which allows you all kinds of items. My MOH of honor also listed a few stores for gift cards like Costco, Lowes and Home Goods.

Not everyone needs or wants upgrades. Jeeze! You could have a stock the bar shower, recipe shower, date night shower. Whatever you actually think you'll use. I personally am not a fan of upgrades. I am perfectly fine with my old towels. If you care for them properly they stay fluffy. My sheets don't have holes or anything and work fine. I like to wear out my home items before I replace them. I don't like to be wasteful.

I've lived together with FH for almost 3 years now. We're upgrading a lot of things as well as registering for a lot of things we didn't have. Roomba, steam mop, expensive knives, nice sheets, etc.

We did amazon (upgrading a few of our items and some fun stuff that we want but have never bought), Etsy (some cute home decor, mr and mrs stuff) and gift cards for our honeymoon destination (guests asked that we have that available). Truly we just want help with a down payment on a home, but a lot of people don't like that hence our registry. This has hands down been the hardest thing. I'd love to get tons of stuff to fill my future home with, but it won't fit in my one bedroom apartment.

I secretly really hope that someone throws me a recipe shower. Guests bring their favorite recipes on index cards that you put into a book at the shower. My cooking is in a rut so I would be thrilled with this.

Erin Wood, good for you. We were just giving suggestions, not mandates.

We registered for upgrades as well...but then odd other things...a few books, fountain pumps (because I want to build some customized fountains), outdoor lanterns, etc.

A cuisinart, Instant Pot, garden stuff, board games, platters and serving pieces, a really nice big cooler, cookbooks, new pillows, great knives, a step ladder, tools.

And life it too short to have shitty silverware...

FH and I also live together. We decided to use the registries for upgrading our stuff, like getting matching towels and nice sheets. On amazon we linked the universal registry to some power tools at lowes.

I have also seen that you can register for experiences, like soulcycle and monthly wine memberships.

Told my girls instead of bridal shower we just needed to do a winery trip and have a fun filled day!! No gifts needed. Otherwise you could set up an account with travel agent for honeymoon

I really can't stand this whole "we've lived together we have everything!!" trend. Ive lived with fh for 5 damn years. There's always stuff to register for, unless you're like Erin that is. *eye roll emoji*

I dare anyone to walk into a Bed, Bath and Beyond and not find a single thing they might want or need. Love that place.

Amazon has a registry option so you could register for basically anything you want! Get some stuff on a list that you want but have never been able to get for yourself. Or you could register with like target or somewhere similar and put some new movies, books, even clothes on there if you want? I also live with FH and have for a long time but we registered for things we cant afford, like a nice knife set and sharpener, a roomba. a clothes steamer and hardwood steamer - think about stuff you can't get on your own and throw that on a registry.

Also if you like cooking a recipe shower is always fun! Or you could just put that as an option along with a small registry of physical items [ex: Bride is registered at Target or in lieu of a gift you could bring a copy of your favorite recipe for her to add to her cook book!] on your invites so guests have a general idea.
