Bridal Shower Bingo, Suggestions Needed

Ivonne, on May 22, 2015 at 1:07 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 19

I just ordered bingo cards to play at a friend's bridal shower and the instructions said to play during the gift opening portion, fill in the squares with gifts the bride may receive and when she receives them, cross off that square. She has a fairly broad registry and I'd feel terrible if no one got 5 in a row/bingo. What are some other alternatives that I can put in the squares? I was thinking of filling in the squares with things she is likely to say (ex: "more champagne please!" or "thank you!"). I was also considering having her draw wedding related words from a hat inbetween opening her gifts. Any ideas or suggestions? My main goal is to take some of the focus off of the gifts and make it fun and engaging for the guests during this occasionally dull part of the bridal shower.

I don't think you'd have any trouble people getting bingo. I however never tend to play because i like to watch the bride open gifts. Smiley smile

Maybe not during opening gifts lol cause most do like to watch. Plus think if someone gets all excited and yells out bingo I the midst of crying from the greasy sentimental moment lol. I still think it would be fun though.

I've played this at a couple bridal showers I've been to and thought it was great. I've always thought it was boring to watch people open presents, honestly. This gives guests something fun to do but still keeps their focus on the gifts.

If she has a large registry, you could make the items more general. So for example, instead of saying "can opener", say "small kitchen gadget". You could also wait until closer to the shower to fill in the squares to see if you can tell what's being purchased off the registries.

Our family plays this at every shower:

-Guests receive bingo cards and fill in THEMSELVES what they think the bride will open (when I'm at a shower I cheat and pull up the registry on my phone).

-As the bride open gifts, she holds up (I held up and FH announced what it was and who it was from) so that all can see

-Guests cross off as the gift is open

Oh....just reread your post...I wouldn't do the "what she will say" thing, that forces guests to pay attention too much to what she says. Let them fill in the bingo cards, people will play and win. Trust me, I've never played and nobody NOT will...we went through 12 bottles of Victoria's Secret Lotions just in Bingo at my shower PLUS some more items (giving 1 bottle to each winner)

Agree with Maltese - we played this at two showers and it's always the guest who fills in what they think the gifts will be. You can offer up suggestions or fill in some standard ones - towels, sheets, lingerie...then have them fill in the blanks. We have done it where the guests get the cards when they arrive so they have plenty of time to fill out the cards. The other time we had a seated shower so all the guests had a seat at the table and we had the cards at their place setting to fill out.

You won't have an issue getting people to fill in ideas. My family always cheats and asks other people at the table what they got the couple, so they can add those in, too. No need to help it along any more.

Everyone cheats lol. Guest: "bingo! Oh she's going to open this because I brought it for her" me as a BM: "yes but she hasn't opened it yet so that's not bingo" guest: "but she will. Bingo" me: "ok here's your lotion". Lol I'm not going to argue with my friends guests.

My grandma heard that my cousin was having the toilet paper dress game so she brought tape.... :/

And those idiots tried putting all in a row: Bath towel, hand towel, wash cloth, kitchen towel, pool towel

Reeeeealllly? *sigh* It's a game to win cheap prizes from the Dollar Tree. You don't need to win that badly.

Do brides usually receive 20 gifts? Obviously I haven't been to many showers and I'm concerned with 20 squares getting filled in and marked with an X, I've also never played bingo at a bridal shower so I'm fairly unfamiliar with how its done. The bride has a little more than 20 guests, many of them that aren't very familiar with the bridal shower tradition, and may show up without a gift.

Thank you all for your feedback! Keep the suggestions coming!

@Ivonne....there were about 60 people at my shower and we were able to fill up my MOH's Acadia, FSIL's Escape and the backseat of FH's pickup truck with gifts. I'm STILL putting stuff away...

Leave it blank and play the normal way. I've to many a shower and no one has never gotten Bingo!

Ivonne, traditionally showers are held to shower the bride with gifts. So many people bring presents. If the bride isn't local you ship it to the house and tell them what was given (which still counts towards Bingo)!

Ivonne - Many people will show up with multiple gifts, as well. Like, for my friend I am doing a baking theme. So I got them off their registry a spice rack, cooling rack, measuring cups and a muffin tin. So for one person attending, that is 4 different items to use. So yes, I think you will still be fine with 20 people invited.

You also mentioned how it goes, so here it what I've seen in the past: The sheets are blank and on the tables already. You can mention early on about the bingo game so they can enter stuff up until opening presents. Tell them that they need to put in the blocks things that they think she will receive. You can give examples like bath towels, sheet set, vacuum, KitchenAid mixer, measuring cups, etc. When the bride opens an item, say a pyrex measuring cup, everyone marks it off. When you have a line across, yell Bingo and that person gets a prize. There are normally a lot of winners, so we cap it to 5 winners. I'm sure some people there will know how to play and will help others if they are confused. But it's really easy and keeps things less boring while opening presents.

I would also say let them fill in the blanks with what they think she will get.

I've played bridal bingo before and we didn't have any issues with getting bingo! People usually put what they got the bride, plus the things every bride gets- pots and pans, dishes, towels, etc. I like your idea of adding a couple "free spaces" of things she might say but I wouldn't do more than 2 or 3.
