Bridal Shower - Recipe Party

HoundMama, on January 8, 2013 at 3:40 PM Posted in Planning 0 4

I am supposed to meet with my MOH this weekend. She wants to talk about planning my bridal shower to find out what I would like, not like etc. I know that I don't want a traditional shower. I am 34 and FH already own a house, so I feel kind of silly asking for gifts on a registry as it is.

I do love to cook, however. And an idea I have come across is a recipe party. Has anyone ever done this or been to one? Evidently each lady is supposed to bring a few recipes that are her favorites to put together in a homemade cookbook and then maybe a sample of one of the recipes? Is there anything else we could do so we aren't just eating the whole time, lol?

To be clear, I am not planning my own shower - I would just like to help out my MOH as much as I can as she does not live super close and is a very busy lady, but still wants to put on all the frills that traditionally go along with getting married.

Any creative suggestions you might have would be helpful! Thanks!

I love the recipe shower idea! Mine was a kitchen shower, just because I did kind of need some new cooking stuff, but I did get an awesome cookbook.

As for other things to do, my MOH had a funny madlibs type thing that we did and I had to try to figure out who wrote which one while picking the winner. There was also a "how well do you know them" thing with old status updates from FB that got pretty funny.

I love that idea and I would be more than happy to attend. Thanks for asking ;-)

Eating is a big part of any shower I've ever been to. Sometimes a couple silly games are played, and then the bride-to-be opens gifts.

My girls brought their favorite recipes to my shower - they didn't bring the food... most of it was desserts, there were a few apps and entrees. (I love me some sugar.)

Depending on how big your shower is, you can do a potluck where everyone brings a dish and the recipe to go with it. The only thing is you risk having a lot of the same thing.

You can still have people bring recipes and then do the regular shower stuff... mine was more so of an open house I guess. People came, we drank wine and ate lunch and caught up. There were old pictures of me all over the place which was hysterical. They also did pictures of me throughout my life and guests guessed how old I was. They also did a "he said / she said game" where they asked FH and I the same question, and guests guessed which one of us said the answer. It was a display shower so no opening gifts for me - thank God.

I love the how well do you know them type games! There is always that ONE person that knows way too much about you! Smiley smile

I had also heard something about a storytelling thing, where everyone comes with a few big memories of the bride written out and they all put it in a memory book for the bride - but before they add it, they have to get up and share with everyone. I'm not sure I trust some of my friends with that kind of freedom lol!

Edited because I type too slow:

These are all great ideas. And no prob, Paris - you can eat and drink with us anytime! Smiley smile
