Bridal shower timing?

Paige, on February 10, 2022 at 3:09 PM Posted in Parties and Events 1 10
I’m getting married in October and was discussing the bridal shower. We discussed having a bridal shower in April because it’s a beautiful time of year and we don’t have to worry about lots of folks traveling for summer vacations if we had the bridal shower in June or July.

After that discussion, I talked to my MIL and she thought that was way too early for a bridal shower. I wasn’t aware there was etiquette/or some sort of time in which one should have the bridal shower.
Is it okay to have the bridal shower in April if my wedding is in October?

I’ve never seen a shower that far in advance but I think it’s okay. Most showers I’ve attended have been 3-8 weeks before the wedding.

I agree with PP. Most showers are typically 2-3ish months before the wedding, but I don’t see an issue having it earlier. Just be sure to have your registry done now so guests have time to purchase their gifts. Also, April is only 2 months away so invites would need to go out soon.

There’s nothing necessarily wrong with it, but pre-wedding celebrations (i.e. showers, bachelorette parties, etc.) are typically held closer to the wedding date, say 2-3 months beforehand so your MIL is not wrong. If you have it in April, which would be before invitations are sent out, just be sure that everyone included in the guest list for the shower gets an invitation for the wedding - no turning back at that point if your wedding guest list is potentially still up in the air.

That's the earliest I've seen a shower. Usually it's much closer. What about having it in September?

I know it sounds weird but there is some etiquette involved when it comes to pre-celebrations. However, I have not seen a bridal shower that early before, usually showers are done 3 months and at the latest even three weeks before the wedding. My bridal shower was done 3 weeks before my wedding. I have the same question as PP would having the shower in September cause any problems?

Thanks to everyone for their input. I’m going to talk with my MOH about moving the date of the shower closer to the wedding.

That is early for a bridal shower but if it works out for you then I would go for it. But typically bridal showers are 3-8 weeks out.

I ended up scheduling the shower in mid-August. Much closer to my October wedding date!
