Bridal Shower Tradition

Soon2Bemarried, on June 8, 2021 at 6:01 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7
Are bridal showers still only for women? My parents and grandparents told me baby showers used to only be a women’s event as well. Anywho, if I have a male coworker of childhood guy friends would it be weird to invite them to a bridal shower? Would it still be weird to invite those guy friends if instead I had a couple’s shower, for me and my partner?

Traditions change, especially if you want to do something different. If you want your guy friends at your bridal shower, invite them! You can make it a couples shower if you want, but if these are your guy friends and you just want it to be a bridal shower for you, go for it!

Some people do women only shower and some do coed. Go with whatever you like

Thanks! Sometimes I just don’t know what’s acceptable and what’s not, as far as tradition goes. But yes it’s about me! Would it further be weird if I wanted to be involved in the planning?

Yup I’ve heard of Jack & Jill bachelor parties as well.

As far as what’s “acceptable” - if you err on the side of being kind and respectful to people, you can’t go wrong, even if it’s non traditional.
For being involved in planning - tradition is to provide a list of attendees and a date you are free. But…if being more involved isn’t putting an extra burden on the host, or making things really hard for them, see what they think.

I think if you're inviting your male coworker and friends, it would just be easier to have a couple's shower, which are typically coed. You can always have a women only bridal shower before or after your couple's shower if you're still wanting a women's only event!

For this reason, we are doing a Jack and Jill instead of a bridal shower. I think it's totally possible to have a coed shower and I've been to a few and enjoyed them a lot more than the women-only bridal showers. So invite who you want there!
