Bridal Shower - what was your favorite experience as a guest?

Midwest May, on January 29, 2016 at 10:14 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 28

Maids are young and never been or hosted a shower before, I'm old and not up on the current trends........ they're asking what they should plan to do at the shower besides opening gifts. What have you done or planned for shower activities? Thanks.

The best shower I wen to had no games. Two signature drinks (mimosas and sangria) and the food was amazing!

My FMIL is hosting my shower and she asked if I wanted games....no, thanks.

Have drinks, socialize and serve food. I don't like shower games (or any games at adult parties) so I don't think the need more.

I actually do like games and had some very quiet guests at my shower, we played wedding pictionary and it was a lot of fun. You'll know what your guests will like to do so base it off of that. If more people would like a game, I'd say pick one simple one, if they don't like games then skip it all together.

My favorite shower didn't have games. Games at showers make me feel kind of awkward, not sure why.

Yup, mimosas. No "hands on" games. (Please don't make me make a dress out of toilet paper fortheloveofgod)

Lol @kathryn bridal showers are always so much more boring than baby showers. However watching hours of gift opening is always a drag lol! And I personally don't like playing games either. I did see one that was cute they did like a newlyweds type game to see how much the bride would get right about her FH. Most games are big NO from me.

Mimosa bars are always a hit. I'm usually not a fan of bridal shower games, but I do like the bingo game - it makes gift opening a lot less awkward. Guests get a blank bingo card and fill it in with items she might receive, like towels, pot/pans, bakeware, home decor, coffeemaker, etc. You play bingo with the items she opens and have a couple prizes for the winners. The only other game we played at mine was that they had DH answer questions about me and us and then had me answer the same questions out loud, like what Lauren described.

I'm with Princess, per usual, I hate those hands-on games like making a toilet paper dress.

My favorite "game" is the modern version of the Newlywed game. You ask the groom beforehand 10-15 questions (what did you do on your first date, when was your first kiss, who said I love you first, etc.) and videotape his answers. Then at the shower you ask the bride the same questions, let her answer each one first then play the video response from the groom.

It has always been a hit at my friends' showers! Very funny, touching, and it feels like the groom is involved Smiley smile

I don't like games, my favorite part is always good food. I also love when pictures of the bride throughout her life are put up, it's cute to see.

I agree with @Amanda and @FutureMrsDrF. My least favorite part of any shower is games. The last shower I went to didn't have any, and I loved it. Guests mingled and talked, and watched the bride open her gifts.

I've never been to a shower with a mimosa bar, but I would looove that.

Finger foods and alcohol drinks. I LOVE games but not too many (2 at most) with PRIZES!!!! I love prizes. The bingo games sounds fun. I agree, no hands - on games.

I also enjoy the visuals of bridal showers; flowers, display, etc.

    Enjoy!!!

I mostly hate games. BUT we did one once that was fun. I video'd her FH asking him questions about their relationship. Then we asked her the same questions and played his answers. It was hilarious the different answers they gave.

I'm having a mimosa bar at mine! My FSIL is planning a few games, which I'm ok with. I think an interesting one that she is planning is called "bridal shower bingo". Basically, people write down on a bingo card what they think I'll be opening as as my gifts. Each time they are correct they mark off that spot.

I'm excited for this game because it should take some of the attention off me as I'm opening gifts (people will be more excited to check their cards than to watch my reaction haha)

MissEtoMrsB - I went to my friend's shower and she got all the questions wrong. It was very obvious she was upset about it and it got really awkward, really fast. I thought the concept was neat, but it just didn't work out well. We also played wedding pictionary, first table to 10 correct guesses won. That was actually super fun. I can def. Live without games though.

I would rather have a tasteful game (some bridal shower games get a bit dirty), than spend hours watching gifts being unwrapped. Having mimosas, bellinis, etc. helps lessen the pain of watching the gift opening. I went to one baby shower where in the few days before, a lot of the moms insisted they had to bring their kids. There were like 20 kids running around. No fun!

I like the Newlywed game that WWLynnie and LaurenET described. Or any game that is a version of asking either the bride a question or the guests questions about the bride and tallying points. Games like that.

I will NOT participate in a game that requires toilet paper dresses or the like. Just no.

But the best experience is ALWAYS, always whatever I can eat and/or drink.

We played a "game" where people wrote down their favorite memory of the bride and if she got it right she got to open their gift, if not, she had to wait until the end... But I really enjoyed hearing all the memories of her and she, her mother, and grandmother all started tearing up, which was really sweet. But also there was an edible arrangement, which are unnaturally delicious.
