Bridal Shower - what was your favorite experience as a guest?

Maids are young and never been or hosted a shower before, I'm old and not up on the current trends........ they're asking what they should plan to do at the shower besides opening gifts. What have you done or planned for shower activities? Thanks.

I love love love games but they have to be ones that make me feel more connected with the couple. Ones like who said it reading a quote from the groom or bride and the crowd holds up a mustache or lips (in our case a plane or crown) for who they think said it. I also like the bubble gum game and the right left story but very personalized not the generic ones. I think its good for people to learn about the couple and get to know them as sometimes extended families and friends may not know both groom and bride or much about their relationship.

The showers I've been to we always play bingo. As the bride opens gifts, you check off your sheet. Yell out bingo and you win a prize. It's much less awkward and you can play if you want to. Other than that good food and drinks are a must

I want a mimosa right now everyone keeps talking about them! Yum.

I'm not a fan of the toilet paper/wedding dress game either, the bingo one is ok cuz it does give the guests something to do while the bride is opening gifts.

I was at a shower where they played "who knows the bride best" - it was kind of awkward because no one got more than 6 or 7 right!

I get bored during the gift opening and everyone talks through it. I went to two showers where they played a bingo game during gift opening. They handed out a word bank of gifts that were on the registry and told everyone they could write the gift names on the bingo card where they would like (before opening gifts). They also let everyone put whatever gifts they wanted on it...so we weren't limited to just the word bank. Then as the bride opened the gifts we marked our cards if we had the gift being opened written on our card. They let up to three people get a bingo and handed out gifts to the bingo winners. It made gift opening quieter and fun to watch!

Haha! I guess I should read more carefully! I see now that bingo was already mentioned! :-)

After we became engaged and I picked out my MOH/BM's I told my MOH that if anyone brought up the idea of a shower tell them I don't want one . I don't even like the idea of gift registries and didn't have one. My MOH, who is also my best friend and SIL gave me a surprise Bridal celebration. She invited my closest family and friends. There were no games. The BM's each made a huge pot of soup and they had several different croissant sandwiches with fruit and vegetables and dessert. Several people brought gifts anyway and I opened them. But I loved that it was just a gathering of us women spending time together. Not sitting there playing silly games and opening gift after gift.

As an older bride, I've been in a lot of weddings and attended a lot of showers. Having nice food and drink while spending time with the bride has always been my favorite reason to get together. If you had to do a game, the best one I've ever seen was "how well do you know the bride?". The MOH video recorded the groom and asked him all these questions. Simultaneously, the bride was right next to the TV answering the same questions before the groom was unpaused to give his answer. It was hysterical to watch it unfold.

Not going and sending a gift.

Oh, that wasn't a choice? Simple food, ideally at a home, not a restaurant. Alcohol. Small group of people.

I happen to love recipe showers.
