How long before the wedding do you have the bridal shower? Bridal showers do & dont?? Any information is great!

My bridal shower was May 5th (my grandmother's birthday) and we got married July 20th. It was just want worked best for those planning it. It was a complete surprise. As for dos and don'ts, the only real don't is that the bride shouldn't host it herself.

The bride does not participate in any planning. She can provide a guest list of those local who are invited to the wedding and dates of availability.

They are often held 1-2 months before the wedding.
Registry info in shower invites is ok and expected. The shower is for physical gifts only.
There is no requirement or need to have it at an expensive restaurant with full meal and alcohol. It is common to be in someone’s home with cake and appetizers.
The only time it is acceptable for those not invited to attend is when a group chooses to host a shower for you, such as coworkers or church members.

Its usually a month or two from what I experienced from other people's weddings, mine will be a little under two months before our wedding.
