Brides doing their own make up the day of: Which primer, foundation, concealer, & powder are you using?

J Bride, on June 6, 2014 at 3:53 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 18

So far I have not liked it when other ppl do my make up at all; therefore, I am thinking of just doing it myself since I am pretty good at it, and I have the patience for it.

Which primer, foundation, concealer, and powder are you using for your own make up for your wedding day?

I ended up having mine done, but I do my own make-up when I'm stage and wear it all the time. Here's what I use (which I would have used had I done it myself):

    Concealer: Benefit concealer stick Fake-up

Foundation and powder: Make-up Forever HD.

I do not intend to do my own makeup, but I am somewhat of a makeup junkie so I figured I would pass along the info I have anyway Smiley smile

I use a couple different primers, but the one I like the most that is higher end is Benefit's POREfection. If that is a little too much $, try Maybelline Age Defying primer.

I ALWAYSSS use an eyelid primer and I think Urban Decay's Primer Potion is the best. You could try and get this in the "luxe sample" section of Sephora or Ulta for less than $15 vs. buying a regular size.

Also, I love Philosophy's Miracle Worker foundation; I wear this everyday. Stay Flawless by Benefit and Amazonian Clay by Tarte are also pretty good, but if you want something lighter maybe try Urban Decay's Naked Skin.

For powder, I like Benefit Porefessional best, it fills in pores if you have any large ones. I also like Lorac Porefection powder.

I LOVEEE Amazing Cosmetics concealer. It is full coverage w/o being cakey or weird. I also like Benefit Fake Up.

For undereye circles I like Benefits Lemonaid and Philosophy's Miracle Worker color correction.

For mascara, Benefit's Their Real is my fav. For lipstick, Makeup Forever Rouge Artist is my fav. And if you plan to wear a lip color, Too Faced's Lip Insurance primer is pretty good.

    Hope this helps!

I have read a lot on here about setting sprays, which I will be purchasing and trying out soon. I love my makeup regimen that I just started this year.

Foundation - Clinique Redness Solutions - super easy to apply and stays light on the skin. It's $27 but it lasts about 4-5 months and is definitely an every day staple for me.

Concealer - I have been using Dermablend just for spots and I have a blue spot on my chin which it covers completely. This stuff is very buildable and I suggest using a make up brush with it. It comes as a stick. It's $25 but again, lasts a while.

Under- eye concealer - Clinique Airbrush concealer. Very light weight and doesn't sink into pores. Comes in three shades that are very blendable.

Setting powder - I have been using Dermablend, but I am going to try a few different things for "wedding" make up. One day of extra coverage will be okay. The Dermablend is about $25-$30 so that's not cheap!

I have also been using Clinique Repairwear Laser Focus as a "primer" of sorts. This is marketed for wrinkles, but let me tell you, it has given my skin a makeover. It's amazing. This is super pricey, I scored it as a gift with my regular make up purchase. I have heard good things about several other primers though, and that they are a MUST.

The setting sprays that I have heard the best comments on are Urban Decay All Nighter, Model in a Bottle and Ben Nye.

I'm getting my makeup done at Sephora. They only charge $50 (or if you buy $50+ worth of makeup, it's free). I'll be buying some makeup and getting the service free. If I buy all this high quality makeup, I will end up spending way more than $50.

I'm doing my own makeup, here's what I plan on using.

Primer: Smashbox Photo Finish Color Correcting Primer in green because my cheeks are very red

    Foundation: Revlon Colorstay Mousse

Concealer: I don't really use much concealer, but when I do I use a green stick kind by Maybelline again for redness.

To set I'm not using a powder because I have very dry skin so instead I am using Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray.

Bare Escentuals primer and powder foundation. You can barely feel it on your skin, it's great! I just used a drug store concealer a bit under my eyes.

I am not doing my own makeup, but i thought id share this weird little makeup tip that my mom shared with me a few weeks ago. I live in Texas and its HOT. Makeup melts off my face quickly. So check this out. Its a WAY cheaper alternative to the expensive setting products. And I swear it works! Smiley smile

I do not plan on doing my own makeup but I'm a makeup addict so I though I would give my input lol

    Primer: BENEFIT "Porefessional"

Foundation: TARTE "amazonian clay 12 hour full coverage" ( I usually don't use full coverage but this is great for special occasions like your wedding day!)

Concelear: NARS stick concelear in "pear" (the color depends on your skin color but I feel that this is a great color for light-medium skin tones specially for highlighting, I've used it on my MIL and sister who are a few shades darker than I am and it looked great on them)

NARS "creamy concealer" I use this for my under eyes (I get really bad bags and this works magic!)

Powder: I use NARS "light reflecting setting powder" it's great for setting your makeup. Then I finish it all off with BENEFIT "hello flawless" powder.

I have oily skin so I have to set my makeup with the setting powder so if you don't have oily skin you should be fine with just using the powder!

My sister is doing my make up and recommended Revlon Color Stay (24 hrs). I wore it to zumba a couple of weeks ago and it is amazing. I wiped my sweaty face several times and there was no foundation on the towel.

I will be doing a whole faciel 3 days before with my regular products so I don't break out (i have senstive skin) appricote scrub

    and my clinque scrubber

    then witch hazel

then serium to close pores (natual basics from Sallys beauti supply)

then I use beyond belief mosturizer (wrinkle cream)

    for day of wedding

    appricote scrub

    serium

line filler (oil of olay fills in creases and smoothes skin)

then I will use cover girl poweder with brozer over the top (lightly) to give me that "glow"

    some neutral blush

brown eye pencil around my eyes and on eyebrows

mascera (the length lash one, im not doing fake lashes)

I want to achieve this look and I have been practicing so it should be close.

I won't wear foundation because its heavy on my face, and then it might melt later or give me those creases from smiling.

These are great suggestions! Thanks for starting this post!

Two weeks to go and I'm still testing out makeup (because apparently I like to live on the edge, haha). But anyway, I thought I would pass along this article I randomly found last week about "white cast" in photos, which I'm verrrry prone to. I always thought my foundation was too light judging by my photos, but this articles identifies SPF as the culprit. So I'll be buying some BB cream this week (I believe L'Oreal is the only drugstore brand that makes this without SPF) and doing some test photos.

Obviously SPF is a good thing long-term to have in foundation, but this is just one day (well, two days for second in-town reception). I'm pretty tan and there's a significant variance between my face and body in evening photos using a flash. And my wedding is at sunset, so I'm sure there will be quite a few evening shots.

    Article about white cast:

Another article listing foundations without sunscreen:

(I haven't read the posts above, and this doesn't answer your question.... but...)

I found a new product at my make-up trial yesterday that I am in love with. If you plan to use eyeliner, look into Make up forever aqua eyes (I got it in black). It was developed and tested on synchronized swimmers to wear in the water, and seriously lasts. If you think you might cry, look into it!

I also learned a new make-up technique that may have just changed my life. Yes, a little dramatic, but it's called the 'tightline'. I'm sure youtube has videos on it. A-maz-ing.

Well i'm doing my own make up for the wedding just because i'm on a very tight budget and my fiance's aunt is unavailable that day she had planned to do my make up for me.

Using my usual moisturiser from back in the uk

Primer - Maybeline Age rewind primer to help those few wrinkles I have. l love maybeline primers as leave my skin feeling silky.

Concealer - is a little bit of my Boot's number 7 BB cream if I need to I'm lucky I don't tend to need concealers much except if it's my monthly time colour - fair

Foundation - Maybeline Age Rewind Eraser colour - creamy Ivory I tried this the day I brought it and loved it though that was just a trial run to see how it worked.

    Blush - Collection2000 - know it's a soft pink

Touch up powder - Covergirl pressed powder oil control - not sure what the colour is. I tried a trial run with this too and works fantastic for if get a shiny face this will be on hand incase need touch up outside before the wedding as can get humid here.

Eye Shadow - I'm still deciding it will either be my Rimmel London in nude colours, or my Max factor duo eye shadow stick in smokey grays. *I think Max-factor is same as cover girl in the us*

Mascara - Max-factor eye brightening for blue eyes. I love this mascara!

I'm not doing any eyeliner as I shake and wanted a natural look

Lipstick - i'm mixing a few different brands of lipstick to achieve the colour i'd like. I think that's everything =0)
