BRIDES WHO GOT BUFFET ---NO TAKING EXTRA FOOD HOME

ready2marry, on March 26, 2016 at 4:41 PM Posted in Planning 0 41

Hello, so I asked my coordinator at my venue and found out that we cannot take home extra food from the buffet we are having for the wedding. I was bummed because I wanted my guests to take a doggie bag home. Is that typically what happens? I'm not familiar obviously of how these things work. Now I was debating if I should've done a plated dinner instead. But then I'm thinking if I did a plated it would be just one selection and one serving. I guess I just need someone to tell me it's worth the $$. Thanks!

We can't take anything from our venue due to some sort of law or something

They definitely can't give your guests takeout boxes - it's against health regulations. One workaround I've heard of is if they leave the leftovers in the fridge in pans, you can go and get it out of the fridge. Because they're not boxing it to be taken away or handing it to you, somehow I guess it gets around the regs.

The bride and groom are typically given the left over food. I have never heard of people taking doggie bags. We had soo much extra food at my sisters wedding

I was at a wedding this weekend with a dessert buffet. I saw a few people taking home to-go boxes. I was actually surprised that was allowed.

We can take it home either. I just felt bad because 1. I hate waste 2. I feel like I paid for it I should be able to take it home but FH said it's probably because of health regs. It's about 100 per head, open bar including cake. I mean... it should be worth it / reasonable right???

We're doing a buffet at ours. The venue won't allow us to take any of the leftover food home other than leftover cake. Not sure why, I'm guessing it has something to do with health regulations but who knows.

Courtney M. That's exactly how my situation is. Would you have changed to a plated, knowing this? I guess because my mentality in getting the buffet is to get more.. and I won't be..

Its pretty typical. food safety regulations dictate that food has to be kept a certain temperature and if someone got sick from leftovers the company could be liable. my caterer will leave any leftovers and if we take it thats up to us

My venue won't let us either. It's a health code thing. We are just going take sure people know to help themselves to seconds if they would like lol no need to waste all of that money

That's typical. I don't think guests expect to be able to take home leftovers anyway. We had buffet but only ended up with leftover cake.

My venue won't "stop" anyone from taking good home but they would not help or do anything to provide that opportunity to take it home. So we can provide take away boxes on our own and if our guests take it then whatever.

Your guests can go up and get seconds or thirds while the buffet is still open, can't they? So you are still getting "more" right?

I would find it weird to see doggie bags going home with guests to be honest. I don't think this should determine your dinner style. Have the style of dinner you want.

As a guest, I would never even think of taking or wanting leftovers from a wedding. I don't know how a plated meal would help. Are you going to have everyone scrape their leftovers into a box, write their name on it and then put it in the fridge and hope they don't forget them?

We were not given/allowed any leftovers besides the cake. I'm in FL.

Sadly , our caterer didn't give us leftovers either. We just got to bring home all the extra cake. I would choose whichever is cheapest for you ...for us plated dinner was more expensive than buffet.

Some caterers told us buffet would be more ,..it just depends on what style your caterer normally prepares ...

We're having plated and any extra food they have they won't be giving to us - it's against health code regulations. We can, however, take home any extra cupcakes we have but our caterer said there usually aren't very many left!

No, it's in our contract that there will be no food to take home. How would this even work? Would they box it up and hand them out when your guests leave? The food can't just be left on the table...I find this very odd.
