Brides…help

Jacob, on February 19, 2024 at 3:58 PM Posted in Planning 0 3
I’m a groom planning our wedding because my FW is super busy with work and school. We have a year before the big day, but I’m already stressing after a week of engagement. I would really appreciate your help, tips and tricks, advice, ANYTHING!

Our budget is 15k MAX.
Things I need help with would be
Questions to ask venues
All inclusive packages vs Build your wedding
Just pics? Or is it worth getting a cinematographer as well?
Food and catering (food trucks?👀)
Family drama🙄
Etc.
We’re not very traditional, I mean to say we don’t care about all the superstitions, we would LOVE to have a food truck or two at the reception.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, all ideas welcome!

I understand the overwhelm for sure. First thing is to find and book a venue. For that, you already have an idea of budget. I'd look at budget managers online and figure out how much of that $15,000 can go to food and beverage, so say it's $10,000 and you have 100 people to invite, then you'll have 100 pp for that. That will determine which venues you can think about looking at. Once you arrive at a number pp, you can ask the venue whether they can do what you want for that price. The venue will provide you with a contract, so read that really carefully and make sure you agree with all of the elements in it. Ask questions about anything you're not clear about.

That's sort of a condensed step 1, feel free to read around here for more tips and ideas. Welcome and congrats!

The first things you two need to decide together are (1) general size of guest list, (2) general budget, and (3) what kind of style or feel you want from the wedding. After that, start looking at venues because that will affect your date and sometimes what other vendors you can use.

When you talk to the venue, some good questions to ask include if you’re required to use their vendors or if you can bring in your own, what restrictions they have on decorations, what they provide included and what add-on options they have (day-of coordinator, cleanup, renting decor, etc), what dates are available and if you can get a discount for certain times of year or day of the week. Read reviews everywhere — wedding sites like this, Yelp, and just Googling.
