Bridesmaid Dress as Bridal Gown?

FutureMrs., on December 30, 2016 at 10:10 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 26

Has anyone used a bridesmaid dress as their bridal gown? Or maybe you know someone that did? I've been looking at different alternatives for a dress in attempts to keep costs down. I'm not totally set on this idea, but one of my concerns is that it might not look "bride" enough. I would love to hear from some that may have experience with this!

Also look at quinceanera dresses... about half the cost of a wedding dress and still very formal.

Some users on here went with a bridesmaid dress. No one is going to mistake you for anything but the bride. I say where whatever you want. Bridesmaid dresses in white or ivory often look just like a wedding dress.

I wanted to do this but never felt like a bride in any of the dresses. I also tried on evening gowns in white and blush. I ended up buying a wedding dress on sale and I am happy I did. I am not saying it can't work, just saying it wasn't what I really wanted.

I think it's all about the accessories!

You can get a bridesmaid dress, maybe add a belt and a veil, and it's instantly a bridal dress! There's definitely some gorgeous options out there!

I don't know anyone that has used a bridesmaids dress as a wedding dress.I tried on 1,but, it wasn't for me.I tried on so many wedding gowns that it just seemed to plain for me.Good luck and see how YOU feel in it.Also maybe try a consignment shop in your area.

My dress is technically a prom dress. I looked at them because I wanted black, but there are a ton of white/blush options, too. Prom is cray now, the gowns can look very bridal.

Ok y'all be honest with me please. I really like this dress, and I was looking for a dress that was lace and chiffon. I wanted some sort of sleeves or straps. I'm not typically a belt person, but I think adding a sparkly belt would look nice with it. If I get a bridesmaid dress it will definitely be white. So what do you think?

@Pippa that's a good idea! Prom dresses are so ridiculous now. I can't believe some of them!

I tried on bridesmaid and wedding dresses within my busget. The one I like the best is a bridesmaid dress. I haven't bought it yet but am 99% sure I will. It doesn't matter what section of the store you find your dress in. What matters is that you love the dress. There are a ton of different styles of bridesmaid dresses so you will probably be able to find something you like. You can also add accessories on dress it up a little more.

One of my friends purchased an ivory BM dress from Anthropologie (BHLDN) and it looked awesome on her.

Look at the Fleur and Annabelle bridesmaid gowns at BHLDN. Though they are listed as bridesmaid dresses the reviews are full of brides who wore the ivory colored ones as bridal gowns, and they are gorgeous!

@FutureMrs. it depend on what you want. The picture you shared is of a nice dress, but to me it would not feel like my wedding dress. That was the problem I had when i spent several months looking through bridesmaids dresses. I realized that deep down I didn't want a simple dress, I want something more like a ball gown. I think the dress you shared can make a great dress though.

I bought a bridesmaid dress in ivory and a veil. It looked great. It didn't have a train, but I didn't want one.

My reception dress is actually a Jenny Yoo bridesmaid dress in ivory. I definitely don't think anyone will think I don't look like the bride. As long as you love the dress I think you should go for it!

Lots of people do this, if it' your style then go for it! There are no rules saying you HAVE to wear a bridal gown to be a brideSmiley smile
