Bridesmaid Dresses

Michelle, on July 19, 2021 at 9:55 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14

Hello everyone. I am beginning to look at Bridesmaids dresses. Would love some feedback!!

1. If my dress is long sleeves should the bridesmaids wear long sleeves?

2. Should all dresses be the same? I want everyone to feel comfortable and not hate their dresses. Thanks in advance.

    1. They don't need sleeves just because you have them, so do whatever you want!

    2. Some bridesmaids all wear the same dress, while others do different styles but keep some things similar for a cohesive look. It's very common to see them all in the same color, but different styles of dress. The mix & match look is also an option, for example 2–4 colors or shades of a color. If you've decided on your color palette, talk to your girls and see what they're comfortable with!

Thank you so much. I am definitely going to keep them in the same color. I am on the fence about the style. I lean towards traditional, but I want them to feel confident and comfortable. Have you decided on your bridesmaids dresses? Where are you looking?

    1. No need to have them wear long sleeves unless that's something that you really want.

    2. I would definitely recommend letting your bridesmaids have some input in the style of their dresses because people have different body types and it's much easier in allowing everyone to feel comfortable. There are lots of ways to still achieve a cohesive look! I had all of my bridesmaids in the same color, fabric, and designer but allowed them to choose which style of dress they wanted. This worked out really well because one bridesmaid was well endowed and needed a style where she could wear a normal bra, and another bridesmaid was pregnant. We used Dessy and had a great experience. I've also worn Azazie as a bridesmaid before and a great experience with them as well.

I don't think they have to have sleeves, just because your dress does, unless it would be appropriate for the weather and likely temperatures of course!
I think it's also up to you/the vibe you are looking for if you like them all the same or different. As Jasmine says above, some people like the same fabric (from somewhere like Dessy or David's Bridal or whatever) but different styles, and others go for different fabrics (chiffon, satin, velvet) but same colour, and then you have everyone just picking their own dress in a general colour range.

For my bridesmaids, I only have two, so I thought they might not look like bridesmaids at all, if they wore different things, whereas a mix and match selection of three or more would look intentional! so that's something to think about as well

I think one thing to note, is you say you don't want your girls to hate their dresses, which of course, none of us do! I do think though, that when I've been a bridesmaid, I want to fit in with the bride's vision. I know I probably won't ever wear this dress again, and that's ok! Usually, my one request is that I can wear a real bra which has straps, haha!

I have 3 and they all bought theirs already. For me, the color was more important than the style, so I told them they could get whatever they want as long as it's blue or green. Two of them picked long dresses and one picked a pant suit, all from different stores. But I know most brides don't do it this way, and usually get them all from the same store.

Thank you Rosie! Hate was a bit of an exaggeration on my end. I know everyones body types vary and I am leaning towards a certain color and giving them options with textures and fabrics. They all know me and my style well. I am confident they wouldn't disappoint. Thanks again for the response!

    1. As everyone else has stated they don’t need sleeves. I asked my bridesmaids to wear sleeves because I wasn’t just to have a different aesthetic.
    2. If you can find a dress that looks good on all of your bridesmaids go for it. If not then let them choose. All my bridesmaids have different dresses same color. I think it makes them more comfortable then me saying here wear this and they don’t like the style or the cut or the fit of something.

I am having my bridesmaids choose their own dresses as long as it matches the color, and is long, other than that they are welcome to a variety of them

They don't have to be long sleeves just because yours is. Also they can do the same dress or mix & match, completely up to you guys!

I'm personally just picking the color and giving them a length, then letting them choose. My girls range from very thin to plus size, and they're in different states, so trying to find one dress for everyone would be a nightmare. I also want them to have something they'll be comfortable in and that reflects their style.

Thank you. Yes, that is my entire thought process I don't want the girls to not like what I choose. I really wanted feedback to make sure giving them options and staying in the same scheme/theme is acceptable.

You’re welcome when I mentioned it every body thought it was going to look tacky but it actually looks really good. They all compliment each other.

My girls are pretty spread out as well. Thats a great idea to let them to know the length. I feel like I am making so many decisions getting some feedback from everyone has been super helpful. Thanks so much!
