Bridesmaid Dresses

Amanda, on June 5, 2022 at 8:39 PM Posted in Planning 7 10
Hey all! We finally got a venue and now I can’t wait to start planning everything else. Would love to hear what your bridesmaid dress ideas are. Same color or different color? What about styles? I will have six women in my bridal party and then my two nieces will be junior bridesmaids so now I’m trying to decide on if I should mix up colors or not. I have both a matron and maid of honor too. Would love to hear what you all are thinking for your own!

Hey! Congrats on finding a venue! I know it’s such a relief!

I’m also having 6 bridesmaids total including a matron and maid of honor as well. It was sooooo stressful trying to find dresses that everyone liked. So many different opinions, eventually I just had to take lead and make the decision for everyone. The dresses are formal but flowy, with a split, and the top portion is interchangeable so they can style it how they want for a tropical wedding. They are all the same dress but my honorable maids are wearing a turquoise color meanwhile my bridesmaids are wearing coral.

I had 5 women in my bridal party with my sister as maid of honor. I wanted to make sure I liked the way the dresses looked myself, so I only took my mother and sister bridesmaid dress shopping with me and made sure to stay under a certain dollar amount to be fair to the ladies. I was originally going to use my 3 colors in our palette, but then the style I ended up going with only had 2 out of my 3 wedding colors. This ended up working out just fine because I got the idea to just have my sister and MOH be different from the rest of my bridesmaids (she chose navy and I had the bridesmaids in the slate blue color). 3 colors probably would have been too much with only 5 ladies. I have seen it done nicely though with 6 or more. Sometimes they even just do varying shades of a color (and different styles for every person) and it comes out really cool!

I had three bridesmaids/groomsmaids (we didn't put a label on it, LOL). I wanted a mix and match look, so I gave them a color scheme and they each chose something different from a different store. Two of them chose long bridesmaid dresses and the other chose a colored pant suit. Here's a picture, it's low quality but hopefully you get the idea:

Since you have a pretty big bridal party, I definitely think you could go the mix and match route if you wanted. Your MOHs could wear something slightly different to stand out. Your flower girls could wear a colored dress or white with a colored accessory, there are lots of options there.

I didn't care for everyone to have the exact same color or style, i just asked for similar ish shades of light pink. HOWEVER in hindsight i kind of wish that i asked for same color but different styles - this was mostly because i did have worries regarding if it would clash. sometimes all the different shades of a color may clash more than you think. in the end i got lucky and the colors they all got actually photographed pretty similar!

i LOVE the idea of different styles - i feel like everyone has such a different body type and personal style of their own that it's kind of hard finding one dress that would work well on everyone

My 3 girls are all in different states, so the easiest option was to just pick something from an online shop. I knew I wanted them in teal (much to the chagrin of JLo in The Wedding Planner lol), so I ordered swatches from a few different places. The I picked out a few options at any place that had the color I liked and gave them the options. They all ended up liking the same dress, so it made it super easy.

I'm having all 3 bridesmaids wear the same dress in different colors, one for each color of my color pallet. However, the top of each dress is interchangeable, so each girl can choose whether they want halter top, off the shoulder, one shoulder, etc. I'm ordering them on Azazie, and getting each groomsman a matching tie with the bridesmaid he's walking down the aisle with.

Congrats on finding a venue!! That’s a huge aspect of the wedding planning! For our bridesmaids dresses, we tried to play off of the venue that has a black and white checkered floor, so we opted for black bridesmaids dresses. Everyone was able to pick their own style from azazie online, but I asked that it was the same fabric and all floor length; so it could be cohesive in photos; there were so many options to choose from. Although I didn’t do it, I love the idea of different shades of the same color as well or dressing up the MOH or matron of honor in the same color but different fabric or pattern.

I personally opted for all the same colour but I love the idea of mismatching colours - especially if you're going to have a lot of bridesmaids!

I was really struggling with style because my bridesmaids are all so different. I have my super slim 18 year old sister, my beautiful uni bestie who may also be pregnant by the time we get married (as they're trying now!) and my childhood bestie who will have given birth just a few weeks before.

To add to it one of my friends lives abroad so I would have had to post the dress internationally for her to try on. A nightmare!

Anyway, my solution was to go for an infinity dress in a one size fits 'most' (up to a UK size 20) that you can wear in a variety of different ways. I'll try out some styles on myself to see which I prefer, but if they would all rather wear it in a different style I'm very relaxed about that.

I'll attach some pics. I'm going for the light blue colour you can see on the mannequin Smiley shame (apologies for the dodgy pics - taken of a screen, very boomer of me!)

Hi, same color is traditional but mismatching dresses are more and more popular nowadays. If you are bit conservative, different colors with same style would be a good choice. But if you want to try something new, different colors with different styles, like one-shoulder, spaghetti straps, off-shoulder, or halter neckline, would be a perfect way which also can highlight your bridesmaids' strengths cause different body shapes. But remember that the colors should fit your wedding vibes. I bought 6 bridesmaid dresses from Duntery last week, 3 in rust and 3 in terracotta to fit my vintage wedding in autumn. This online company has more than 70 hues and stylish styles which can meet all wedding vibes, maybe you can get some inspiration from it.

I'm thinking something like this, but with slightly longer sleeves. I'm having a pretty formal ceremony, and this fits the scene and compliments the ideas for my dress. The gold color flatters both light and dark skin tones and the style will flatter all of my bridesmaids body types too. I want the bridesmaid dresses to be matching, but I'll choose a dress that all of them like. I'm going to get their opinions on this first so they are happy with their dresses.
