Bridesmaid Gifts

Emily, on September 20, 2020 at 12:46 PM Posted in Planning 1 21
I’m wondering what people are doing for bridesmaid gifts? I want to do the matching robes, but are you expected to give something else on top of that too? I’m not sure how much is expected.

The gift is a nice gesture but maybe think of what they would like individually or something they would all like. I know for my MOH I got some little trinket stuff of JJ's House. I forego the robe because I was not sure if she would wear it after the fact. I got her a cute pearl bracelet with her name on the heart charm, a little compact mirror with her monogram, and I cannot remember the rest but just some little stuff oh and a tote and make up bag.

Shop for your bridesmaids individually, like it's their birthday or Christmas. I would recommend avoiding things that say "Bridesmaid" or that have the date of your wedding on them. I'm getting my bridesmaids a few "common" gifts (wine glasses with their names etched on them, tote bags, etc) and then a few personalized gifts per person (gift cards to their favorite restaurant/store, necklace, a bottle of their favorite alcohol, etc).

I got my girls matching earrings to wear along with some classy airplane bottles of booze, but then also paid for their hotel rooms for the wedding weekend as a practical gift. They were happy with those.

I got robes from VS and it was on sale for $9 or $10 bucks, and I got them tote bags and cups with names on it.

I got each of my girls a silk pajama set with their initials monogrammed, and a piece of Kendra Scott jewelry. Since the pajama sets were obviously for a getting-ready photo op (as robes would have been as well), I decided to get them each a piece of jewelry too.

Etsy has a ton of ideas to choose from. I got matching totes with their names, makeup bags with their names in the front & their title with the date inside, earrings (from a farmer’s market), bracelets, lipgloss & soaps. All of that was on sale or clearance. The most expensive thing I got for each was a bottle of specialty olive oil & balsamic vinegar. I spent around $100 on each bridesmaid. I only have 3 ladies in my bride tribe. I got my flower girl & my FMIL a tote & makeup bags too. It was cheaper for me to purchase 5 bags than 3.

I’m paying for their hair and makeup, gifting them silk masks, and then adding a bottle of champagne to each thank you bag.

Accessories for the wedding is not a gift to them. Shop for them based on personal interests like it's their birthday and avoid anything wedding related or that says "bridesmaid"

I got my bridesmaids monogrammed pajamas from etsy, because I figured they'd wear those more often than robes. Also got them shawls since our wedding is outdoors at the end of September. Going to throw in a small emergency kit as well.

My two bridesmaids are my FH teenaged daughters and my MOH is my sister. I bought each of them a tote bag with matching flip flops, tumblers and each will get an individualized gifts TBD. Because the bridesmaids are “our” kids...I bought their dresses and I also will be giving them what most would consider props (necklace, earrings, and hair pins) and I also bought them for my sister since I was already buying for the other 2. I will include them in their totes for organization purposes...but they know those things are coming.

So far I got my bridesmaids matching robes for pictures, a necklace/earring set, and a lipstick. I feel like I might add 1 or 2 more things. I want to get them a picture frame, but I don't want to spend an arm and a leg.

I think anything is appreciated. I did go overboard with my gifts but I do have a themed wedding (vintage). So they all got monogram bags, monogram robes, I woodburned a jewelry box with their names, woodburned names and titles on wooden clothes hanger, perfume bottle with atomizer, fingernail polish of colors of wedding, makeup mirror, pearl bracelets, then earrings, necklace, and matching bracelet. I wanted to get them stuff that they can reuse after the wedding. I held back on things that were labeled "bridesmaid". A lot of things were DIY. I put a lot of thought into it and I think they appreciate that more.

Since my wedding is in the winter, I was going to get them small throw blankets. Ideally they'd be in the color of their dress and embroidered with their name or initials.

I haven't bought my bridesmaid gifts yet (one of the few pluses of having to postpone our wedding due to COVID), but I'm planning to do individualized gifts. My four gals are four very different people, so getting them all the same thing isn't right. One of my sisters doesn't drink, so that rules out wine or champagne for her. One of the others is a friend from my book club, so I thought about getting her something book-related.
