Bridesmaid Pajamas or Robes?

Jess, on January 9, 2021 at 10:03 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 25

So I am starting to look into gifts for my bridal party and of course I want to get cute matching outfits to get ready in!!! I am debating between robes or pajama sets for my bridesmaids, what do you guys think? If you say pajama sets how do you think I should ask for sizes without ruining the surprise?

I would like pajamas because I think I’d wear that more than the robe

Not sure how you can but tones are easier and beautiful.

I think Pjs are cuter and much more comfortable to be in for an extended period of time. When I’ve been a bridesmaid and had to wear robes, I’ve always felt super exposed and uncomfortable; and I was constantly having to adjust/tighten the belt.
As far as sizes, most pjs come in S, M, L, XL so you won’t need an exact size at least! Maybe you could use the excuse of bridesmaid dresses to get their sizes? Or you could just ask them to be sure, and just not tell them exactly what it’s for.

I didn’t get my bridal party anything to get ready in. And I’ve never gotten anything like this as a bridesmaid, so no personal experience.

However, one thing I wish I had and just won’t buy myself (for some reason) is a nice, fluffy comfy rice. Although, I’m sure you want one of those cute, short, lightweight ones for pictures. If that’s the case I’d say PJs is a better choice. If they all got their dresses at the same place you could call as ask for the sizes. You could also ask what size shirt they wear. And if those fail I’m sure you have a pretty good idea on size I’d always err on being too big than too small when approximating size, PJs are supposed to be comfy.

I opted to not get pj’s or robes. I have a small bridal party (3 total) & only 2 will be getting ready with me. I plan on wearing a button up shirt & leggings to get ready in. I got them each totes & shopped like it was their birthday’s.

    I agree with this.

It's always best to be upfront and honest. If you do get these, make sure you also give them an actual thank you gift in line with their individual hobbies/interests.

I did PJs and my girls adored them. I got married in May so I did shorts PJs with short sleeves button down tops. I asked my girls for their tshirt size and used that as a general guide for ordering their PJs.

I used a wonderful seller on Etsy who made the shorts according to the girls’ heights, which I roughly knew for all of them. That was an amazing perk—the shorts were appropriate length on them all!

I got my girls t-shirts with roles on them. Not planning to do anything outside of that so I can put more money into helping the bridal party pay for hair/makeup/nails as they expressed wanting to get it done as a group and I want to do as much for them as I can manage cost wise.

First, if you get robes or pj's
for cute pics, then you still need to get each a personal gift. The coverups are chosen to your taste as a prop for the wedding. They are not a personal thank you gift, any more than buying the bridesmaid dress would be a gift. It is a nice gesture for you not to cost them money. But not a thank you to them. ***** You might want to ask them about robes or pj's before you buy. People are quite variable with this. A lot of people absolutely will refuse to have any picture of themselves they know will be on the internet, be taken in any state of partial undress, any robe or any pj's. And they will refuse, making it a total waste of money. Better to ask. Most everyone has some kind of cute leggings or comfy pants, and a button down shirt, or peasant top and tiered skirt. I have been in a lot of recent BP where someone has refused and it led to a fight. These pj and robe pics are a relatively new thing. You don't want a fight wedding morning. But worse, a lost friendship over something so small causing your BM to walk out hours before the wedding, because she says no, and you insist. Totally preventable if you just ask. No surprises. Lots of people don't care. But lots do. I always tell brides now , up front, since such a cheesy half dressed pic turned up at a job interview. And the couple had signed the rights to publish the pics to the photographer, never dreaming they would be sold by them commercially.

I plan on getting robes with initials! If you need their sizes, do you know what size bridesmaids dress they ordered? You maybe be able tell off of that.

I got my girls silk pajama sets for getting ready with their initials monogrammed on them. They still wear them all the time as regular pajamas! I also got each bridesmaid a piece of Kendra Scott jewelry.

I sat cute silk pjs, I was about of a bridal party
The robes were beautiful but they didn’t stay tied to well with it being silky during photos, could just be the kind we had I like pjs especially with shorts comfortable yet cute.

Ask for sizing for their dresses is a way to get it

I love this idea, I've been thinking of doing short pajamas over robes as well (seems more practical). Do you have the name of the seller on Etsy? Thanks!

I did matching shirts and asked everyone to wear black leggings. It was inexpensive and really cute. I mostly decided this because I currently have 4 robes from 4 weddings I was in and I didn’t want to add any more robes to anyone else’s closets lol. Pjs are cute too! You could ask around to some ppl they know to get sizes.

I asked my bridal party what they wanted & they said they wanted robes and pj bottoms. I plan on getting their names and titles on the robes and just have matching silk pjs so we're all cute and nobody feels extra exposed (although my bridal party has stated they aren't shy and would be comfortable naked around each other LOL).

These were perfect for my wedding day! Great quality, super comfy and soft and true to size! It was great to give my girls something they would continue to wear and use even after my big day!

I chose neither because god knows I don’t need another robe with “bridesmaid” in the back and I knew my maids wouldn’t either LOL. I just had shirts made and told them to wear black leggings. It was super cheap and they don’t have to feel bad about what they were going to do with them after.
