Bridesmaids Makeup

Kayla710, on March 16, 2022 at 10:26 AM Posted in Hair and Makeup 3 11
We plan on paying for everyone to get their hair and makeup done, I’m just wondering if I should 1. Pick a single makeup look for all the bridesmaids to get 2. Pick different ones based on what I know they like or 3. Let them choose their own look. I’m already having them choose their own hairstyle and shoes, I’m just kind of worried that if I let everyone pick whatever makeup look they want that some might stand out more than others, I’m just trying to avoid too much variation in each of their full looks. 1, 2, or 3?

I would let them each choose whatever makeup look they want! That way, they feel comfortable and confident because it's a look that they chose and liked. You could always ask them to show you an inspiration photo of what look they'd like ahead of time.

I would talk to your makeup artist and bridesmaids about the vibe you're looking for. If you want everyone to look natural and neutral, your makeup artists will be able to pull that off for each bridesmaid based on their skintone and features. If you want everyone in a red lip your makeup artist will be able to choose the right shade for each of them.

I wouldnt necessarily let each bridesmaid choose completely what they want on their own. I know in my bridal party they'd swing wildly from a bold smoky eye and bright lip to natural to sparkle everywhere.

Definitely at least narrow down a vibe with you MUA. I think ultimately your 'maids will want to be able to pick something that suits them, but getting a common theme/vibe through the looks will help with cohesiveness!

I definitely agree with this! Since I was planning to pay for all my BMs to get their makeup done (and all were cool with getting their makeup done), I had planning to ask my MUA to give everyone the same general look (a touch of glimmer, but mostly neutral colors - fresh, soft glam, I guess). Of course, the actual colors used would vary based on skin tone, etc...but same general vibe. I would not have wanted to write a blank check, so to speak, because I would have ended up with at one least one bridesmaid in full-on bright red lip and dramatic smoky eyes...and she would have stuck out like a sore thumb against myself (the bride) and all other BMs, and it would have looked a hot mess (in my opinion).

Let them pick the look they are comfortable with. Not everyone wants to look identical nor is a single look flattering on various skin tones.

I agree with some of the ladies above about talking with your bridesmaids and MUA about the vibe you're going for (i.e., natural, soft glam, etc...), and from there your bridesmaids should still have enough optionality to personalize their makeup look while your MUA can tie everyone's look together

I’m letting mine pick. They have different vibes and yes although it’s my wedding, it’s their face and they should be comfortable. Matching and coordinating is one thing but I think when people start to get everyone looking identical down to the exact makeup look is where it can cross into a weird territory in my opinion

I'm picking my bridesmaids's makeup looks. I don't plan on it being the exact same for each 'maid, but it should coordinate and flatter each 'maid. I'm paying for it, and they can take it off once the wedding is done, so I think its perfectly fine for me to pick it out. If they don't like it, its only one night so they can deal with it lol.

I would definitely narrow down the vibe and let the MUA and bridesmaids know!

I would definitely say to let them choose.. everyone has a different comfort level when it comes to make up. Maybe have a few ideas in mind to show your bridesmaids and suggest they go with one of those looks but let them ultimately decide. You really won't notice in pictures anyway. I was in a wedding a few months ago and the bride doesn't wear make up EVER! She didn't want to wear makeup on her wedding day but we convinced her to wear a little. I wear makeup every single day, so I wanted to be a bit more than usual, which for the Bride would be super over the top. She was completely fine with me wearing a lot of makeup and it didn't make me stand out at all or look more than the other girls.
