Bridesmaids, no groomsmen dilemma

Debbie, on May 19, 2021 at 3:42 PM Posted in Planning 0 6
I asked four close friends to be my brides maids and have one maid of honor, but my former recently told me he is only having a best man, zero groomsmen. Should I cancel all my bridesmaids since there are no groomsmen? Would it be totally wrong/weird to have four bridesmaids and no groomsmen? Thanks for your feedback!

No, its not weird - sides don't need to be even. Keep your four maids, you already asked them it would be extremely rude to cancel that.

Not weird at all! Your photos will be fine, the girls can process alone and the guys can enter from the side at the ceremony so the "pairings" aren't weird. I wouldn't worry about it at all!

Attendants don’t need to asked before 6months because so much can happen between now and then. Countless posts on the forum are proof of regrets of asking early.

Specific to your situation, you should not ask anyone to step down unless you are canceling the wedding or you want to end the friendship. Many weddings have uneven sides and it’s completely normal. As long as one of the other 3 bridesmaids is willing to sign as the groom’s legal witness on the marriage certificate, leave it be.

I’m sure you selected the closest, most meaningful ladies to be your bridesmaids. So there’s no need to eliminate them just for picture purposes.

To back up what everyone has already said - I agree, it's too late to cancel them now. I would just keep them in the wedding party. They don't have to stand up with you at the alter. You could just have the best man and maid of honor at the alter with you, and have the other ladies sit in the front row after walking down the aisle. Or you could have them all sit down, so it's just you and your lover center stage. You also have time for your partner to find a groomsman or two and have 2 bridesmaids to a groomsman walking down the aisle at a time. In the end I don't think anyone is going to notice more than you.
