Bridesmaids survey... I need help

Patricia , on March 16, 2011 at 12:15 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 17

If you were creating a survey to get the input of your bridesmaids on dresses, what are some questions you'd ask?

I wouldn't do a survey- but a casual conversation. My main point would be talking budget. I wouldn't give them alot of options- because then you get drama and pissed off people when you don't choose what THEY want.

You can have them try on dresses together- but be clear you have the final say and you are picking the color, etc.

If I was a bridesmaid, being self-conscious, I would worry about the cut on both the legs and the chest area. Of course, it's the bride's choice overall - so I would wear what she told me to wear - but certain styles flatter different body types, so maybe ask what flatters them?

Don't do a survey. You are asking for trouble. Just pick out 3 dresses that you like and tell them that the one with the most votes is the dress... unless you don't mind different dresses with the same color... which I would not because girls have different body types.

Yes Meghan they know I'll have the final say, I've chosen the color of the dress and fabrics, but I wanted to find out how many of them prefer long, short, sleeves, no sleeves, price range etc... the survey would be individually sent to them so they won't know who picks what exactly.

I was planning a get together to discuss these things but it's been almost impossible, they all have different schedule that's why I wanted to create it and get as much info as I can from it. thanks

@Rane, I don't mind different styles at all as long as it's the same color, fabric and lenght

I actually picked out several dresses for my bridesmaids and asked them which ones they liked I wanted them to have something that they could wear again and not stuck with a traditional bridemaid dress that they would never wear again. Below are what we narrowed them down to.

    *not to hijack...

Anita- where did you find that second one? Does it come in other colors?

I'd just call them and ask. Sending a survey- even an email sounds like, well- a survey. Just ask if they have thought about anything they may prefer. Did they want long, or would they prefer short?

I'm a bridesmaid in 3 other weddings- and I will be giving no input. If we go dress shopping, I'll pull a few I like. But I could care less if it's short, long, or whatever. I'd wear a potato sack if she wanted me to. I want to match HER ideas about her wedding- not interject my own.

Would I like a short dress I can wear again- sure. But that's not why I'm wearing the dress.

I looked at a lot of bridesmaid catalogs, and it looked like Alfred Angelo had the best styles. Then my MOH emailed me some links of dresses she liked. So I went to the bridal salon, got 2 copies of the bridsmaid catalog, we sat down together with a catalog each and pens, marked which dresses we liked, then traded to see what we both liked. Then she tried them on, and AFTER the trying on of the dresses (not before), we had the same favorite, and luckily the color was PERFECT on her.

But then...I'll probably only have 1, might have 2 (2nd girl just had to move to TN, don't know if she will be able to get back). If I have 2, they both want different colors, different lengths and very different styles.

I usually don't care what I have to wear at other people's wedding but me personally I feel like the girls should have input because they're paying for the dress and I want them to be able to use them later and not add it to their "never to be worn again" pile. I'll email them, thanks.

@Anita, can you post the link to the second dress, I would love to take a look at them, they're very nice

I would ask them for their budget...

I let all of my girls choose their own dresses though, I just picked the length and color, so I have no idea what I'd ask for a survey =) Maybe what length they prefer?

If you could I would suggest just going to the store with all of them and having them look around. I told them I wanted a short dress and what color but they all looked and tried on different styles and they decided on the dress themselves. It worked out pretty well for me.

I tried going with the "pick a dress in this color area no matter the style as long as you're happy with it" idea. Yeah that didn't work out so well, granted i have over a year still for my wedding and no final decisions on dresses have been made, mostly just because my girls are the type that say "whatever the bride wants" or "its YOUR wedding, pick our dresses out." I thought it would be simpler if they choose their own, but now i'm realising that that isn't necessarily true, maybe its pressure that i might not like whatever they pick. Though i consider myself mostly a laid-back type.

I would ask them neck line length and fabric they would want to use, just to make sure that everyone is comfortable. I orignially planned on letting all of my BMs pick their own dress as long as it was a tea length and it was in a certain color. But since the tea length wont fit one of my BM right we decided to go with one dress for them all in different colors
