Bridesman and Groomswoman, which side do they stand on?

Kaylee, yesterday at 2:33 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 1 2
We have decided to have a bridesman and a groomswoman. We are both friends with each of them and the guy is a guy’s guy and the girl is a girl’s girl so I’m thinking to have them dress in the gendered attire (bridesman same as groomsmen and groomswoman same as bridesmaids). To keep them separate I’d give each a unique element to set them apart from the normal gendered attire. Then I’d also have them stand on the gendered sides. I honestly think this would be great for two reasons 1. The pictures (it just makes a prettier picture in my head) 2. These two are some of the most invested people in each of us respectively and I know they’ll be some of the more expressive and emotional. I think it would be really nice to have them on the side each of us can see (me being able to see my bridesman in the groomsman line and him being able to see his groomswoman reactions in the bridesmaid line). I also think with splitting wedding day by gender we could avoid awkwardness with where they dress, since she’d still be doing hair, make up, nails, and he’d rather be hanging out with the guys through all that. What are your thoughts?

We had a bridesman and a groomsman, but we didn't do it the way you are suggesting. My brother (bridesman) and father got dressed with the groomsmen and my husband and my husband's female best friend (groomswoman) got hair and makeup done with us then she went and got dressed in her hotel room. Afterward, the groomsmen, groomswoman, and the groom went to the bar in the hotel and had a toast together. I don't drink and neither does my father (recovering alcoholic) or my brother so they just came over and hung out with me, the bridesmaids, and my mom once everyone was ready until it was time for pictures. My brother (bridesman) stood with my bridesmaids and my husband's female best friend (groomswoman) stood with the groomsmen. It wouldn't make sense for them to stand on opposite sides because all bridal party members usually stand on the side of the person they represent. I think it would look like the groomswoman is actually a bridesmaid and the bridesman is actually a groomsman if you did it the way you are suggesting. The only way I could see this working is with you had everyone stand on opposite sides to see their reactions. Otherwise it makes no sense.

I had a bridesman and he stood on my side and wore a suit that matched the color of my bridesmaid's dresses. I think it would be weird to ask someone to be in your wedding and then put them on your significant other's side.
