Bring Your Own Pastor (byop)??

Jen, on March 21, 2018 at 11:58 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 7

Wondering if anybody has gotten married in a church (i.e. bride's church) but brought in a different pastor (i.e. groom's pastor) to officiate their wedding? Is that weird or disrespectful? We are Lutheran.

I don’t know about disrespectful but in my FH’s church it isn’t allowed. We can use anyone who has been a pastor there but we cannot bring in a pastor from another church. His family is Southern Baptist, we ended up going with his former youth pastor.

The pastor of the bride's church would have to agree with your plan.

I think that will depend on the church. We were in a similar situation, because our home church wasn't available for a fall wedding. It was really important to my fiance that we were married by the priest. Most of the churches we looked at didn't have a problem with the priest performing the ceremony. While we were exploring our options, one Saturday became available at the church and we booked immediately. We are Catholic if that helps at all.

This has never been allowed in any church I’ve attended.

We are getting married in the church that I grew up in and my FHs uncle (pastor of an entirely different church) is performing the ceremony.

When my brother got married 30 years ago his wife brought their pastor in and they co-offiiated. It needs to be approved by the pastor of the church. Some are welcoming some are not. Check with your church.

We are. My FH’s Pastor is marrying us at another church because his church’s sanctuary is positioned awkwardly, IMO, for a wedding (two side entrances and no center aisle). The two pastors are having a meeting to discuss the details. Not a big thing.
